Question detailed VIN decoder

I'm looking for a more detailed VIN decoder. If I supply the VIN I want to be able to find out the gear ratios and axles it came with from the factory. I've been to a few VIN decoder sites and none of them tell me the gear ratios and axles. I know I can give a VIN to the service tech at the Jeep dealer, but I would like to find the info myself. Thanks, Smitty

I do not think that information is in the VIN.

What exact website did you go to and what do you have to click on to enter your VIN? I went to the Chrysler website but kept going around in circles. Any help would be appreciated. Smitty

GO to the dealer and then around to the service department. They will print you a build sheet.

I believe I got mine from Jeep.com, but when clicking the contact us link, I now get the same message Smitty did???
Guess try again later, or see if the service dept of a local dealer will do it.

VIN decoder

I did give the service tech at the dealer the last 8 digits of the VIN. I'll check to see if they will print me out a build sheet. I did not buy the vehicle from a Jeep dealer. Thanks to all!! Smitty

Smile VIN decoder

I received via email the "build sheet" today. What's interesting is that after I gave the service tech at the dealership the last 8 digits of my VIN - he told me I had 4:11 gears and a Dana 44 frnt & rear. The "bulid sheet" shows 3:73 gears with a Dana 30 on the front and a Dana 44 on the rear. Just what hyperbuzzin told me a stock Unlimited should be.
I guess my bottom line is this -- double check what the dealership tells you regarding your VIN "build sheet" Thanks to all!

unless its a rubicon it wasnt possible to get a D44 in the front.
on TJ's 4.11's (or 4.10's) were only available on 4cyl's unless its a Rubi.

Hello all
FYI on this topic, the email address no longer works..
You need to call 1-877-426-5337 (1-877-IAM-JEEP), then hit 0 at the voice prompts, and request a build sheet from the customer service rep - They will fax/email the build sheet in about 24 hours..

I'll reply to this thread once I receive mine, and all is well
Mike

yeah, but it's just the basics. It doesn't tell you the gearing.

Ok, I have to say Jeep customer service kicks butt..

Within a few hours of calling, I have a faxed detailed build sheet (two sheets actually ) of my jeep - gear ratios, extras, everything.. Good stuff

As for the link above, all that does is show basic info that you can tell by looking at your vehicle..

As it's already been said in this thread, that info is NOT in the VIN

That last item on Jeepsr4me's build sheet (8 additional gallons of gas) has me stumped. Mine said the same thing and I still haven't been able to find where they hid it.
