Question Did..

some 1997 Jeep wranglers get 1996 motors? I went to change my TPS the other day and socket had pins instead of Tangs, so look up the part under a 96 Cherokee and found it there?

There was not a '96 Wrangler. Although some of the '97 TJ's were built in mid late '96 They share a few parts with other Jeep models.

that must be it then, I knew they didn't have 96 wranglers, I bet it just has a 96 motor, I was afraid I got skunked with an older motor from a cherokee.

I had a '97 that was made 3/96 and in those early months, they did use some of the YJ 4.0L engine parts. My '97 was like that, I found that out when a replacement TPS (throttle position sensor) for a '97 didn't fit but one for a '95 YJ 4.0L did.

Originally, the '97 TJ was supposed to be introduced in late '95 as a '96 but production delays prevented that. When it was finally ready, they introduced it in early '96 as a very early '97 that came out well before the other '97s were introduced.

That actually happened to me with my oil sending unit. When I replaced that I had to get one from an XJ. My wiring was from an XJ not a TJ
