That sounds like a fair deal. I just read "Steal J" in JP Magazine, but the author never mentioned how much he paid. After reading the 06 article, it seems he ripped off the previous owner and was proud of it. He did mention karma. I haven't read the other installments of the article, so I don't know if he got what he had coming. Congrats on your new TJ!

I just bought my 2.5 for 6300. Needs 2 new tires and 4L linkage. So if that wasn't messed up I would price mine around 8000. Good buy. Wish I could have mine back. Went wheeling with it and fried the computer.

Sounds like a great deal for all the added equipment.
Our bone stock 97 Sahara, 4.0/auto/ 136000 miles, went out the door for just under 8 grand last month.

One of the owners before me had jeep submerged up to windshield getting it wet. Me going through water caused extra strain on the computer causing it to fry. Sucks. Its been sitting st my grandpas for 3 weeks noe. I'm going through withdrawals.

You went 90 mph on the freeway with the 2.5l and with a 3 inch lift on 32's? That is pretty impressive, almost hard to believe

4 low is for stump pulling power in really bad off road conditions.
And you aren't going to be able to go fast, it's there for torque/power, not speed. If you want speed it's 4 wheel high.

4 low doubles at least the gear ratio, so if you have a stock 3:07 rear, when you drop it into 4 low, it just became a 6:14 or higher. And the higher the ratio, the lower your speed. You'll run out of engine rpms before you get any speed out of it.

And 90 in a jeep with a lift and 32's? You are out of your mind! Jeeps ain't built for speeds like that. You'll find yourself in a butt pucker moment first time a cross wind hits you at those speeds.

Use 4 high on the highways when it's snowing and such, NEVER EVER on dry roads. Do so and you'll tear up the transfer case, minimum.

They who do 90 in a Jeep in California get exactly what they deserve, namely the CHP on their butt and a video shot on World's Dumbest Driver's. Then they get a guest shot on 'See the Judge get cranky' after which real horror show begins, namely you getting the insurance rate adjustment that your carrier sends you after they see you n TV.

Another tip would be to get a GPS and see if your speedo is accurate. It is not impossible to reach 90 with a 2.5 and big tires but more likely that the speedo was not re calibrated.

On the price it is not a steel but you didn't get taken. (assuming you don't run into some hidden trouble) I got a steel on mine but I remember the book value was over 8k. Its a 99 SE.

I paid 7000 for my bone stock 1 owner sport 2 year ago. Had 123000 miles on it. Lady owned street tires, never offroad. I fixed all that quick. And it was from a dealer in Socal.

Wow. I would imagine that your speedo is mis-calibrated.

X2 on using a GPS to check your actual MPH. When changing tire size the speedo goes out of calibration unless corrected. Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forum. Lots of great folks here to share your experiences with as well as being here to help out fellow jeepers. Careful with those high speeds in the Jeep, they get real squarely and don't recover well. Hench the phrase "death wobble" you will hear from time to time on the board.
Was that a private party deal or dealer? I was just curious. I have been looking at used vehicles on Craigslist for my kids. I have a Son just coming back from Afghanistan (Hooaaaaa) who needs a 4x4 truck of sorts and my Daughter who is just turning 15 1/2 will be eligible to drive soon. Unfortunatly the Jeep I have I bought for her a year or so ago (MINE NOW) and got too carried away fix-in' it up. I decided to keep it and talk her into something else. LOL
Good luck with your new J - just
E - empty
E - every
P - pocket

Again welcome!

Never use 4 high on dry roads? Could you explain why/how this affects your transfer case?

Not just your xcase. It is hard on your whole drive line. All four tires are trying to turn together at the same speed. So when you start turning and stuff with all of the traction that pavement provides, it just works your driveline really hard. 4 Hi is meant for situations where there is less traction or a loose surface...sand, snow, ice, etc. Besides, what purpose would you ever even need 4 high for on pavement?

I have a 98 tj 4banger, just came back from a trip, with 2 inch lift and 31"s speedo reading 70 mph, gps reading 77 mph. once, going downhill, the jeep went to 90 on the gps, but it was a long way going downhill....
