Question Diehard Platinum Battery for Winch?

I did some searching on this site and I have decided I am going to go with the sears diehard platinum battery to power the Warn M8000 winch I just put on. Here are my questions....

After installing the winch, I took it out to stretch the line and wow, does it kill the batter within seconds. I am not sure how old the battery is but the cold cranking amps are 660 at 32degrees and 525 at 0degrees.

I looked up on sears about the diehard platinum. I am going to change the cable ends also and I was wondering if I should stick with post mount or convert to side mount. Which would be better for running the winch? And which particular one should I get? P-1? Group Size?

Thanks!

get the P4 or P1, whichever is in stock. P4 is dual post version of P1. If you can, get the marine P4 version...two sets of top posts.

The very last brand of battery I would run since they were bought out by Johnson Controls who moved their manufacturing to Mexico is Optima. All three (ALL THREE!!!) of my last Optima batteries... two Yellow Tops and one Blue Top... died prematurely within 8 years, each only lasted 2-3 years. Heck some OE batteries mentioned recently in this forum have lasted 12 years and many over 8!!

I agree that optima has gone downhill based on what many have said. The die hard platinum is a great choice since it's made my odyssey but if you're on a budget another good battery to look into is carquests higher end AGM battery. I think its quite a bit cheaper than the platinum but I could be wrong. Their AGM is actually the same thing as a Deka Intimidator which has a good reputation; it's probably the next battery I'm going to buy.

Could I use side mounts to attach the power/ground for the winch. Then use the top mounts for the Jeep power/ground? Using both posts and side mounts at the same time? This is the one I was looking at....

The Diehard Platinum's side connectors are where I attached my winch cables to. You can't do that with an Optima but you can with a Diehard Platinum.
