Zippers.

03-06 have updated zippers on 1 window. I can't remember which.

I can tell you that 03 has 1 Long Rounded Zipper for the rear curtain.........NOT an improvement if you ask me Makes it impossible to get anything in/out of the back.

Actually i believe we discussed this in a nother thread and discovered that the top was a different length. like and inch shorter from 02-06 i believe is what we found. Something changed in teh window design to either lengthen or shorten the cabin i dont remember which but it made it impossible to use an 02-06 top on an older TJ.

not correct. the tops are the same size, as are the windows. the difference comes in the canvas material itself and the header bar. the 03-06 canvas is "sailcloth" which is generally thicker than the canvas on the 97-02 tops. the clips on the 03-06 header bar are a slight bit narrower than the clips on the 97-02; however, they are in the exact same location so they attach the exact same way.
the zippers on the 03-06 top do seem to be a bit nicer than those on the 97-02, but that is likely due to a different vendor at the time of production.
bottom line is you can use an 03-06 top on a 97-02 TJ. you also do not need the 03-06 rollbar bracket like some people say you do.

...i have an 06 OEM soft top on my 97 TJ.

I believe your top has a different orientation of zipper than mine. I have an 03 sailcloth top on my wifes jeep and the zippers are both the same on each side. My 99 top has the zipper on the top on one side and the zipper on the window on the other. By zipper I'm talking about the pull part that crimps the zipper together.

If it's the case that any TJ top should fit any TJ....then Which ones have separate Zippers on Each Side of the rear curtain? Me Want....(when if this one wears out)

The difference is that you can't use the old style windows on the new style tops. If you buy an 03-06 top you have to use those year windows with it. Same way with the older models. If you can spring for the extra cash go with a sail cloth.

Great....so that means I just bought the Litmus Test year of the TJ..........apparently THAT Test didn't last long.........I wonder why?

If I had bothered to check that I prob would have passed on the Jeep just for that reason........it makes rear cargo area Useless... Yes for grocery getting.....but more so on the trail or camping, that's going to be a PITA.

I was bothered when I noticed........now this thread has made me angry. Please tell me there are others with Retarded Zippers.......I need company......

yeah, that's true. i forgot about that zipper orientation. on my 02, on one side, the zipper thing was on the top of the actual softtop, and on the other side, the zipper was on the actual window.
on the 06 top, they are both on the top itself and none on the windows.

and both my 02 and 06 tops had two zippers on the rear window.

My 2003 has one zipper that holds the back window in, but 2 different pulls so that you can unzip both sides to get the back window to roll up/fold up out of the way... Are you sure yours doesn't? Is it an aftermarket top?

Wow.........won't I feel like an Arse if thats so I'll check when I get back to work later. I've only had to open it once since I got it in December.....and it pissed me off bad, if ya can't tell........so I am hoping in my anger I failed to see the other pull. As far as I know it's OE Top.

Well, I dropped the Top Today after work......and realized it appears I am missing one of the zipper pulls for the rear curtain on the pass side looks like end of zipper is busted off.

However.......the Driver Side...even if there were another pull the end of the sipper is not open.... it Closes from Driver to passenger...so a pull there would not Separate the window from the top anyway........the end of the zipper would still be connected.....(i think I just figured it out in my head...).... i miss my YJ......even though it's still in my driveway...
