Let me be clear up front: THIS IS NOT MY JEEP, I DO NOT OWN IT. I did buy a Wrangler that I'm picking up tonight, but it's a totally stock 2006 Unlimited. I drove this orange Jeep before deciding on the one I purchased.
During my test drive of the orange Jeep, I was bounced all over the road and experienced what I believe was the "death wobble". The first thing I noticed was that while driving straight down the road, the steering wheel was turned like I was making a left hand turn. Second of all at 50 - 60 mph, it shook like crazy. Lastly, while riding down a slightly bumpy road, it felt like the Jeep was creeping (vibrating) into the other lane (oncoming traffic). My question is do all lifted Jeeps drive this bad (I can't imagine they do)?
I don't know how high it's lifted, but it has 35 inch tires. Thanks.
the 50-60 vibration that you felt is because it needs a cv drive shaft instead of the tcase drop kit thats on it. it needs an alignment, BAD, and that will cure alot of the steering problems. it bounced alot because that thing has like 6-7" of lift that looks like all suspension with a short arm lift and im sure the shocks are way to stiff. if you go that high you really need a long arm lift so that it wont ride like that and shock valving is key, cheap shocks just dont cut it.
Do you have a SYE and CV driveshaft? If not those would help to clear up any vibrations you have if vibes are coming from the rear.
I had a 3" lift installed last week as well as the SYE and Tom Wood driveshaft. I did the front alignment myself (having never done it before) and found it pretty easy. From the shop it was toe'd in an inch. After doing the alignment it is about an 1/8th of an inch and is fine on the highway up to 75. No noticable wobble or vibes. Bit more noise, but that is something that needs getting used to as I am not used to the mud terrains.
