Door handle broke?

06 Wrangler X

I just opened the door by the handle and i guess I pulled a bit too much and heard a weird noise and now I can't open the exterior driver's side door. However by the inside I can open it with the interior handle . How do I fix this?? Step by step instructions ?
What broke? HELP ME???!!!!!
Thanks!

You don't mention if you have full doors or half doors and to be honest, I don't know how much difference (if any) there is with the mechanisms.

Had the same thing happen with the half doors on my 97, the outside handle wouldn't open the door.
Pulled the door trim to have a look - everything was intact and moving OK.
Problem was, this clip had moved on the threaded rod. So while everything was still attached and moving OK, it wasn't moving quite far enough.
(For reference, this pic is of YOUR drivers door).

The metal clip was easy to pop off the threaded rod - moved it about 1/4" toward the door latch and clipped it back on.

The arrow shows where the metal clip was before I moved it.

I had a similar problem as well. Mine, however, was that the passenger door would not open from either side and could not be unlocked. I pulled the panel and had a look to find out that the latching mechanism was seized up. Sprayed it down with PB blaster to get all the parts moving again and no problems since.

Thank you for this info!! I just fixed mine too. I was looking for a broken part and would have NEVER thought of that. Thanks again.
