Door Latch link slips out

Yesterday I removed the panel from my 98 TJ because the driver side door (half doors) could not be opened from the inside. I discovered the the link arm was not connected to the door handle.

I popped the link arm back down into the whole, only to discover that it slides up a bit each time I use the inside handle and pops out after 2-4 uses.

Is there something that us supposed to go on the end of the link arm or do you think it's the hole it slides into is not right? I wondering if I need to replace the handle assembly.

There's supposed to be a clip that holds it into place. Look down in the bottom of the door and you'll likely find it..or pieces of it anyway.

I ran into the same issue, but it looks like the clip is pinned in place. I can still see mine attached to the lock, but when you pull the inner door handle it just slips threw

Mine is an all metal clip and the link rod threads into it. I'll try and snap a pic later
