Door lock problem

When I lock my door either from inside or with the key, and then pull the handle to insure the door is locked I have a hard time getting the door to unlock. I can tell that the lock is not releasing and the inside lock does not go all the way to the unlock position. I took the door panel off and cleaned and lubed everything. Still hangs up. Really bad if cold and it's both doors. Any ideas?

Sounds like one of the rods is bent.

I have to lock my Passenger side with the Key. If it is locked from the inside the rocker lock switch jams and it will not unlock period. Need to pull door panel off and look around. I know this doesn't help but at least gives you a Idea of the great Jeep door locks.

Good things about jeeps. They seem to have problems with everything. I won't run out of things to fix. One would think that since they have been around forever that they would be the leader in the 4 x 4 field. They seem to be keeping the aftermarket crowd in business.

Jeeps are Chrysler built, that's the main problem with them. Chrysler hasn't changed all the much since back in the 50's, other than to eliminate Desotas and Plymouths. I love my Jeep, just wish someone else made them.

I have the same problem, just push in on the door while you turn the key. It usually works for me. If not, I tap with my palm, just below the key hole.

I have been thinking about installing door lock "poppers", and was wondering if anyone on here has tried this yet.. I am not sure of the proper name, but key fob "remote" controlled locks. A lot of custom / rodders have installed them. I think it would eliminate all the linkage problems we all experience with the Jeep door locks.

I took my panels off and found electric door locks. Prior owner used what looks lime electric guitar to amp type plugs from the door to body by door strap. That way he could take the doors off easily. Guess he took alarm part. I don't know if they worked well or not.

I am experiencing the same issues on my passenger side door. Other than the dealership, does anybody know where I can get replacement parts for the locking mechanism? I took the door apart and do not see any broken parts, but am curious if the rod might simply be bent as some people are suggesting. Thoughts?

That seems to work in warm weather. When in Co. It was 7 degrees and that trick would not work. Like to make it right.

x2! But I am getting tired of banging on my passenger door every time I have to open it. It would be best if I could get it fixed.

You people lock your doors? Im too afraid of thieves ruining my soft top just to get inside and find out I have nothing valuable in there lol.

Since you said you lubed up all the components it does sound like you have a bent rod. The automatic door locks generally connect to those same rods in order to lock and unlock the doors so I dont think that will be a viable fix to the issue.

There's two rods that tie the door lock assembly together and a little plastic piece that connects the rods, this plastic piece can get worn out and cause problems too. One rod runs from the inside latch, another to the lock itself. I connected my auto door lock solenoid to the rod that runs to the lock itself. Fixed the problem, now I hit a button.

A1 electric. A 2 door kit starts at 60 bucks, shipping only takes a few days and the install really is not that bad, heck I'm just an ol welder and I figured it out. It makes the doors work together, you unlock one you unlock the other too. I had a rod that was acting up and since I knew I was going to have to get into the door panel I might as well add these. I really like it. I did the remote lock, key fob thing and it works great.

How did you run the wires into the door? can you unplug them easily when (if) you take the doors off? I am considering getting these since I already have an alarm on the vehicle. Im pretty handy with these things but other opinions and ideas are always welcome.

Doing the wires to the doors are easy. At the bottom right of the door panel where the door strap that connects to the tub, you can feed the wires behind the door panel. You can use a 4 pin connector, like you would use to hook up a trailer as a quick disco or any thing else you can find.

You might have better luck in the JK area of the forum, but if it were me I would pull the door panel off and check the lock mechanism and see if there are any parts that are not connected.
