Door lock problem

I went to unlock my full steel door at lunch today on my TJ and the lock is loose. It will rotate and I can pull the cylinder a couple of inches out of the hole. Anybode dealt with this before. Just looking for pointers for the easiest way to fix this. I've never had issues with locks on any of my Jeeps, this is a new one for me.

Probably the basic "clip" holding the lock assy in place. Not a huge problem after the door panel is removed for your inspection.

there's a steel clip inside the door that holds the cylinder in the hole.. nappa will be able to supply u with the clip. it's probably a standard size & available any where.. good luck...

So I got the panel off and indeed the clip had fallen off of the cylinder. I found the clip in the bottom of the door chamber. The area where the cylinder is incredibly hard to get to without taking all of the handle and lock parts out of the way. I was scared to mess with that stuff as I wan't sure if I could get it back together. I stuck my hand in there as best I could and got the clip back around the cylinder. It works but the lock is still moving some and doesn't exactly seem right. I would think it would matter much where the clip was placed on the cylinder as long as it's under those notches but it does actually seem to matter.

Do you think the clip may have lost it's shape or tension?

No it fit pretty tight over the cylinder, but the lock would act differently depending on where the clip was (say 1 o'clock position vs 3 or 4 o'clock position) and there doesn't seem to anything that holds it in one place or am I mistaken? Like I said I was doing this with no line of site because I didn't remove all of the other parts so maybe I missed something.

I guarantee the clip is bad or it wouldn't have slid off, also there is a specific position for the clip.....built vehicle door locks for a living

Can I get it in the correct position without taking all of the other parts out of the door? What position should it be in?
