Door strap bracket ripped out

About a year ago the screws holding the Door strap bracket ripped out of the door. It was a simple fix of re-drilling the hole and reattaching with a bigger screw. But now the screw has ripped the exterior of the door in a line and popped out again. Any suggestions? I hope the fix is not a new door, which is cost prohibitive for me. I hope they fixed this weakness in the new 4 door Wranglers.

Find a good welder to reinforce the area.
Get some sort of elastic or spring loaded door stops.
Don't let the door swing open so hard.

I'd go with the first option I think.

I've never been in there but if you take off the door panel can you reach in to use a bolt with a small or flat head with a washer and a nut? It would be less likely to rip out. If there is room you might line the inside with a small flat piece of steel or trim up and drill out some sort of pre fabbed bracket from a hardware store.

same thing happened to me a few days ago with the nor'east storm we had coming thru new england. the screw head snapped right off, leaving the rest of the screw still in the hole.
i'm yet to pull off the door panel. but i'm hoping that i can reach back there and turn the screw with a pair of pliers. seeing that this has happened to others, it's probably a really good idea to support it with a nut and washer. does anyone know if it's reachable once the door panel is off?
