Angry Door Won't Shut!

I have an '01 TJ with about 87,000 miles and hadn't had any issues at all until today when I went out to get in and the door opened really hard and then wouldn't shut. Upon further inspection the door latch doesn't line up with the tub catch. I tried adjusting the catch on the tub to no avail. Nothing appears out of the ordinary on the door and I am baffled. Any ideas as to what the problem/solution may be?

Check all connection points for tightness, i.e. door hinges, body latch, door bolt (which is usually adjustable as well). one or multiple have moved would be my guess.

Loosen the bolts on the hinge and adjust.

There are usually bushings/inserts in the hinges that the pins slide through. It sounds like yours may have buckled or degraded. The extra friction would make it hard to swing, and the change in angle may throw off the latch alignment.
