Smile Doors?

So, I posted yesterday in the new members forum, and it was suggested that the answers I was looking for would probably come from you guys in this forum instead!!! I have recently purchased a 97 Wrangler. The soft top that came on it is in pretty sad shape. I am looking to replace it. Suggestions on the best replacement top would be great. But the real question is I have option to buy a top that comes from a jeep with full steel doors (mine has half doors), but I'm not sure if I can make it work. From what I can tell it doesn't look like it will fit, but thought you guys may be able to help me out. Any suggestions would be great!!!

Difference in door styles has nothing to do with the softtop fitment unless you are getting the top from the Unlimited model, which are longer wheelbase. I believe all 97-06 TJ tops interchange. Maybe slight minor differences in frame/bracket designs but no issues. The newer tops ('02-newer ) material is thicker(better noise control).

The factory softop uses door surounds (the black plastic pieces around the door opening) The are the same for all doors. The shape of the upper portion of full steel and half doors with hard or soft uppers is the same.

Any soft top for the TJ ('97-06) will work whether you have full or half doors, or no doors. Hehe. Typically, someone with half doors will buy a soft top and soft upper doors, such as these:

There are a few options for half door uppers. You can get soft ones or hard glass sliders:

As for the soft top, you can often find slightly used ones for sale on craigslist. Amazon has good prices on new tops, such as the frameless Rampage top:
Rampage 109535 Trail Top - Frameless/Bowless TJ : Amazon.com : Automotive

Lots of options out there. You can easily find one that suits your needs and your budget.

I've got an '04 Wrangler that has a soft top and half doors. I'm wanting to put full doors on it. What years of full doors will fit? I tried some off a '98 that didn't fit.

TJ (1997–2006)... those should work. Did you loosen the hinge brackets and try to allign them to your tub (body)? You'll want to loosen the bolts on the door brackets, close it gently and snug them down then make sure it has an equal gap all around before final tightening.

Remove the fuse. Think it's #4. It's explained in the owners manual.

Pull the fuse for dome lights or put the switch in (you can buy after market) or buy the little springs that hold the "button" in or remove the bulbs...lots of fixes....

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Since I love going doorless and switch back and forth a lot, I'll go with the switch.

Thanks for the info on the tops! My husband and his buddy didn't think it would fit due to the different way they look like they latch on!

Every jeeper in my high school shows up at my doorstep asking me how I did it lmao. One of 'em went to a autozone for help before comming to me and they took a fuse out from under the hood

Its one of dem behind the glove box, look at ur instruction manual for the correct fuse.

EDIT: Some folks get a hot glue gun with a couple pennies and press and hold the buttons in :P

Saw this one guy push it in and drill a hole in it. When the doors come off, he would stick a paper clip in the hole. Problem solved. I just pulled the plug though :P

Ok. So here is the issue with the tops. Mine is a 97 and has plastic flange pieces on it that secure the top to the frame. The top I'm looking at has Velcro pieces in that place. How would I make that work. The Velcro won't fit around the frame?

Why wouldn't it velcro around the frame? Does it line up right? What year and MODEL is the new top off of? The Unlimited models are the only ones I think would not fit due to longer rear ends.

The top is off a 98. The Velcro isn't long enough. We r going to try again to or row and see if we can figure it out.
