Doors - half or full

Looking into buying my first Wrangler and I am unsure about advantages or disadvantages of half doors. I live in Iowa where the winters can be severe, is it unwise to get a Wrangler with half doors? Got my eye on a 02 Wrangler X with half doors, wondering if that is why it is still on the lot.

nahh if you can find a god deal with half doors jsut go fo rit, dont worry about it,a dn if you dont like the half doors you can alwyas get sliders for them, the only reason not to get half doors is if you're worried about security and need to lock ur doors iwht the hard top on.

i ahve 1/2 doors and soft top and its fine in Mass. its a little loud but if you ahve a hard top half doors wont make it loud

basicly dont let that stop you,

Yeah I wish I had half doors. They are really nice in the summer when you take the windows off. If they get too cold in winter, you can always buy upper hard windows. But yeah, if you find one you like with half doors and the price is good, go for it.

Trust me half doors are FINE in the winter. I live in NH and the winters here are pretty brutal as well and i have no complaints at all with half doors. Dont let anyone tell you they'll be too cold cause they wont be. The heaters in these jeeps throw plenty of heat and you'll be plenty warm, i have to shut my heater off after about 15 mins (and i have both half doors and a soft top).

Half doors are also extremely nice in the summer months and you can remove the soft uppers in seconds by just pulling them out and they're just as easy to put back in. It also adds to the experience of owning a jeep...

The only thing you have to be carefull of is making sure not to bend the vinal windows in half during the winter cause they'll break, and just make sure not to use any abrasive surface to clean them. Besides for that half doors are the way to go and im sure most people here would say the same...

If you like it buy it!!

Half doors look better but full doors work better.
It's up to you what is more important.

I have half doors I love em cause I can take the uppers off in 2 seconds and it's alot more open than just rolling down the full door windows. The ONLY downfall for me is not being able to rool down the window at drive-thru's and such, but i'm gonna get some uppers that have sliding windows and i'll be all set.

hmm i wish some 1 would make half doors w/ roll up windows :-P

Its the huge frames on top of the full doors that make them hard to move around..

I just got the Bestop upper sliders for my 2005 SE. Some #@$#*!% sliced the driver side plastic window while it was in my driveway. I've only had the sliders since last Friday but I love them. They are much quieter than the zip up uppers. I got them from JC Whitney for $399. The dealer wanted over $400 just for one zip-up upper.

I like my full doors when I'm playing in the mud.
I will say a half doors are good looking but full doors are safer in all points of view.

So far the black bar doesn't bother me. The nice thing about my year is the front and back slider open. I don't think I'd like them as much if only one opened. I don't have to be so exact when I'm using an atm or sliding my work ID, etc. My stereo sounds alot nicer now too.

I agree with not being a huge fan of the black bar but I'll get used to it. Ever try and zip up the window goin 50 down the hwy, the wind sucks it out the hole. I won't miss that at all. It's hard to hold my double cheeseburger and drink my large sweet tea and drive and change gears and zip up the window at the same time, the sliders will make it soo much easier. As far as the full doors being safer. NEWSFLASH we drive Jeeps, have you noticed they don't exactly have a roof? Not the safest ride on the block. If you need safety get a Volvo.

I like the full doors, but that is just me. And as far as the summer part goes, I just pull the hardtop, replace it with my Viking soft top, leave it set up as a safari, pull the full doors off, install my "doors off" mirrors, and install my new to me Jeep highway footpegs. Scooby

i have had both full doors and half doors. basically, when you have to have a door on, the full door is priceless. it is just plain more enjoyable. more security, easier to use, quieter, etc. offroad, if you keep them on but roll the window down, you won't be able to see quite as much as a half door without the upper, but it was never really an issue for me.
the half door with the upper is much louder than the full door and of course you don't have the same security. it is nice to be able to just pop the top half off though. offroad, it is nice to be able to just pop off the top of the door and put it in the back for more visibility.

i guess it all depends on what you think will be the most important. i have half doors now and wish i had my full doors. however, i like the half doors enough that i wouldn't trade them for a set of full doors, but i would invest in full doors if a good deal came around.
the upper sliders is a good option, but you can start with a set of full doors and buy a used set of half doors for what those things cost.

if it were me and i had the chance to get a jeep with the full doors, i would get them. at some point i would probably also buy a set of used half doors. i see them on CL all the time for $400-$600.
