Doors Removed - What About Mirrors?

I like the half doors, but I'm looking at a Jeep with the full doors. It does not appear that it would be much trouble to remove the doors, but it looks like the side view mirrors go with the doors. What is the answer if you want the doors off, but want the mirrors? Is it legal to run on the street without the side mirrors?

Quadratec do "mirror relocation brackets" to move them onto your windshield uprights.

Covers For Holes In Doors

If you relocate the mirrors, does the kit include something to cover the holes in the doors?

the relocation brackets can be a pita when you have the doors on.

You can jerry rig some spare mirrors from autozone to fit into the top door brackets for when you want to ride doorless.

yep just search on ebay or something... search for wrangler mirror relocation brackets..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JEEP-...hippingPayment

I gotta warn you though, the mirrors will shake more than normal with the brackets also you will not be able to see your passenger mirror with the doors installed.

I tried getting a mirror to put it on there whenever i drive doorless but it just gets anoying puttting it on and adjusting it every single time you decide to drive doorless. Now if you remove the doors and leave it all summer than thats understandable but thats about it.

In CA a driver side and rearview mirror are required. But we have more regulations than any other state

It all depends on how bad the cops enforce the law. Its illegal in NYS but I drove all summer w/o mirrors and cops just envyed me cuz I was having fun while they had to work. I never got stopped. I know cops with Jeeps who drive w/o doors or mirrors. If you get the relocation brackets they don't come with something to fill the holes in the doors. But you can use the old bolts that held the stock mirror bracket on to fill in the holes.

I would suggest what Lev said, get some cheapo mirrors at an auto parts store and mount them onto your upper door hinge. Then you still have your useful stock mirrors on your doors when you need them

Now that I think about it, quadratec sells something that does that. I think its called the quickmirror or something, anyway it slides into the upper door hinge. Thought it was like $50 or around there.

I was going to buy the mirror relocation thing but all I did was I bought velcro ($2) and a convex mirror ($2) and I just put it near the door hinge. So when I put the doors on, I just pull the mirror off.

So easy and works really well.

I'll post pics too; it looks cleaner and flush. Law enforcement have seen me many times and it works well.

Thanks!

I appreciate the input. If all goes well, I'm picking up the '05 Rocky Mountain tomorrow. I've got to ride the V-Rod about 120 miles at about 30 to 35° F to make the trade, but it will make me appreciate the heat on the way home.

Can you see the passenger side ok that with setup? And do your doors hit them when you open them fully?

Why Trade The V-rod

I've got an '06 Screamin' Eagle Ultra Classic and an '07 Screamin' Eagle Road King. I've really come to appreciate saddle bags and just don't ride the V-Rod that much now. I wanted to make some room in the garage and have missed my Wrangler ever since I traded my '98 back in 2000.

Here's the Jeep that I've found and plan to trade tomorrow. The car is with a dealer and I think it will be the V-Rod and about $4,500.00. The Jeep is an '05 Rocky Mountain Edition, Automatic, and has less than 15,000 on the clock.

As a Harley guy, I really like the black and chrome.

As the doors hitting the mirrors, the mirrors ended up being the exact height where they avoid the frames of my full doors and i'd assume if you open the window and turn the door it will not hit the mirror (maybe just touch it)

With the windows closed if you swing it hard to where the strap stretches out then yes it will hit it but if you're careful, it will stop right before.

iv got a better way, know the cops. and o yeah, FOP cards help to but i found to many officers that will still write you a ticket if you are in another town. now i have a chiefs card for the town that i live in and the neighboring towns.

I'd assume cops will more likely write you a ticket in another town vs your own since you're an "outsider", correct?

correct. in my town all the officers pretty much know eachother and i know most of them, im a volunteer figherfighter, but in neighboring towns you sometimes get the a-holes that still want to write you a ticket. thats where a chiefs card helps, because most of them are afraid of the chiefs cards since it means that you are good friends with the chief. it gets me out of small stuff but if i ever got pulled for something big, like dui or something, i wouldnt even show it. i dont drive crazy or anything but if i get pulled for going 5 over or not signaling or a light out or something stupid like that it gets me off quick. alot of the officers in my town are pretty cool people tho. i got to the track with a few of them and offroad with a few of them, heck i even dated one of their daughters for a while. so yeah they all know me well, in a good way.

Another good trick is to "accidentally" show the cops your CAC card instead of your license. Works like a charm. :P

Check your laws it's not illegal in some states to run w/o your mirrors. I live in TN where it's ok to go w/out mirrors.

No need for mirrors in the state of Georgia. I had it confirmed with a police officer.

Like machine said, its the new military ID's. CAC stands for Common Access Card (so saying CAC card is a little redundant, but hey, people still say ATM machine and PIN number, don't they? ).
