Drain Plugs

Ok, so I forgot that I had these in the TJ. It rained hard last week and weekend, and I came out to about 2 inches of water in the driver's side front and rear yesterday so I just drove to the gas station and vacuumed it out Lifted up the carpet and sucked the water out of the tub, too. That seemed to work, but I was wondering if it was ok to leave the drain plugs out so I don't fill up again. Is there a positive / negative argument to be had for leaving them out? I live in Boston, so it gets cold here, and my carpet was wet again this morning. If it gets colder, it ices over.

Have any of you permanently pulled the plugs?
Where are they located? (any pics?)
How do I remove them?

I really appreciate everyone's help here.

Mine was missing the two behind the front seats when I bought it. I just ordered some on ebay in hopes it will kill some road noise and keep it warmer (not that it doesn't stay warm already. Mine doesn't even have carpet or anything and I haven't had any negative effects yet. But i've also only owned it for a week now.

Dude, the road noise isn't from missing drain plugs. It's from your 2 ton brick. Just a few things to remember: If you wave at a passing jeep and don't receive a wave back, it's ok, because you were waiving to the Jeep, not the driver; and you will never fall asleep behind the wheel, because every drive is a white-knuckle thrill ride just trying to keep in between the lines. Welcome to the boards.

Two inches of water on the floor...good thing you weren't a bit further west where people were getting all the ice. Would have been tough trying to vacuum two inches of ice off the floor!

The best thing I did to my Jeep was yank the carpet and the drain plugs out since most of the year I roll with no top or doors. I rattle-canned the floor with some bed liner and it works great
