Dropping the Tank and breaking the Bank.

Has anyone priced a fuel pump for a TJ? Well just in case you where wondering they're running around $300. Awesome right, This week has been a none stop kick to the nuts. The problem started about a month ago when i found myself around a quarter of a tank it would start spitting and sputtering followed with a flurry of backfires. Can't be plugs, wires, or distributor due to the fact that i just changed those a couple weeks prior. Easy enough I figured maybe a little crap in the tank, maybe a fuel filter going bad. Finding the fuel filter was no problem, looked along the frame to find what looked to be a jerry rigged filter instal. Taking it off I found a date of 03/05 then followed by black fuel poring out the exit end I figured it seen its day, 4 years ago. So I changed that bad boy out with whatever looked like it seeing that it didn't even belong there in the first place. Which was another surprise discovered when i told Auto Zone what it came off of. That worked for about a day and it started all over again. So I went out and bought a fuel pressure reader to see if it was the pump. Well surprise, surprise, 22 PSI at an idle, according to the book, is not a good thing. Min should be no less then 44PSI . So i'm picking up my new pump tomorrow, I'll update and let you know how my luck is going after the instal.

atleast now you have a fuel pressure gauge, always nice to have around. good luck with the pump!

"do it once and do it right"

best way to fix it is to break it first

Listed here 1997 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT Fuel Pump
They run from 70 for the pump to 170 for the whole assembly withe sending unit and all. But there is a Bosch one for 400
Violence may not be the answer but it sure cuts down on the stupid questions

Don't forget, if you need it right away, make sure to take advantage of online coupons. I buy most of my maintenance parts from advance auto, who almost always have some decent online coupons.

X2 on ebay/amazon/online.

There is a supplier out of Florida who often has high quality parts for less than what the parts places want for their cheapies.
