E85 fuel in a TJ?

Hi,

most of the people here install LPG tanks in their TJ to safe some money. But i don´t want another tank, i need my rear seats.

Today i´ve read an article about E85 ethanol fuel and that it costs only the half of normal fuel.
Can my TJ handle E85?
What do i have to modify if not?

Please help me with this. I could save +1000$ a year with this cheap fuel.

Thanks for your help.

NO NO and NO

In order to use E85 fuel, you must have a special fuel system. Ethanol is much more corrosive than gasoline and you will dissolve all of your seals if you do so. It's also not THAT cheap. At least not here in the U.S.

In the U.S. if your vehicle can take E85, it will have a yellow filler cap on it and usually a flexfuel logo on it, or an Ethanol logo.

You can however use E10, if they have it there. It's Ethanol content isn't as high and you should be able to run that with no problems. But I still wouldn't just because it says Unleaded Fuel Only on your gas cap.

Yes it can be done it just takes some work. You need to change out the fuel pump, some fuel lines, injectors, and some seals and other stuff.

Yeah, you would have to change everything that the fuel touches, as well as adjusting your timing, and then you still won't be guaranteed to get a good result.

Also Ethonal is cheaper but its less miles per gallon. Its actually cheaper to use regular gas cause the gas per gallon cost less but you will have less miles per gallon. Thats if your car is over 20 mpg.

Also its not worth putting all those fuel parts just to save a couple bucks per fill up. Also its allot harder finding an ethonal station. With the gas you saved by going with ethonal you will loose just trying to get to the closest station.

Doenst ethanol need like 2 gallons of regular gasoline to make it?

I've heard ethanol is cheaper but you still need twise as much gasoline to make ethanol.

so you would burn 2 gallons of gasoline to make 1 of ethanol.

Cool I wouldn't...

As cheap as the ethanol fuel sounds, your gas mileage will plummit. They haven't exactly perfected the fuel yet. Someday.

the thing with e85 is its 85% ethenol and 15 percert gas it takes double the amount to create a clean burn and even if you do get a clean burn it will be bad for your entire fuel system AVOID IT AT ALL COST

Ethanol is a political spin fuel, to get it to run well you will need to either pull the head, have it shaved I don't know how far, or put in high compression pistons, goal is to get the engine up to 11 or 11.5:1 compression ratio. It will run like a raped ape once thats done. I have a couple of friends in south america that own XJ's and have had it done, they put high performance pistons in to up the compression, one was a 98 and the other a 2000, the higher the compression the better the performance. E85 in an unprepared vehicle will destroy it, pump, lines, seals, injectors, etc.
Unless germany has a sudden overnite ability to grow sugercane in mass quantities then the prices you are talking about are artifically set, right now E85 costs twice as much to produce as normal gas, is tough to ship, eats the snot out of existing fuel delivery infrastructure and is one of those 'feel good' things the greenies like. The pols that are pushing it have not a clue.
