Easy question for some to answer...

Ok, I feel a little dumb asking this, I know nothing about motors, but I'm learning! My Wrangler is leaking antifreeze, it looked like it was coming from the lower radiator hose, so I replaced that. Its still leaking and I'm wondering what the upper part of the lower hose is attached to? I'm going to guess water pump? Its hard to tell for sure because there is a pully and belt in the way. The only reason I want to verify is because it leaks when the Jeeps not running (ie overnight) and some nights not at all, which I'm told usually doesn't fit a water pump going out, its usually all or nothing. The leak is running down the lower hose from the top. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

It attaches to the water pump and yes you could be right. When the water pump goes sometimes the water will run down the hose to make it look like it is leaking at the bottom of the hose instead of the pump.

Thanks doclouie! I figured it was the water pump, but I just had to double check. Well, I guess I know what I'll be doing in the next few days, replacing the water pump. Thanks for the help!

you might also just want to check the hoses going into and out of the heater core. Doesn't sound like the heater core is leaking (otherwise your passenger floor would be wet and you'd be smelling pancakes in your jeep). Chances are that's not the issue, but you might as well check everywhere that antifreeze travels. Hope you find/fix the problem.

While you do the water pump make sure and replace any hoses that seem to be cracking or bulging. Oh yea this is the time to do a radiator/engine coolant flush along with a new thermostat. Remember to reverse flush everything.

Antifreeze is more likelyto leak when it is cold (like from a hose) So first look at the hoses . If it has got very cold at night it could be just a hose ?
