So I'm up in the air about either the banks turbo and eaton m90 supercharger. Wondering if anyone has some experience with how well they hold up longevity wise or which one you think would hold up the best on a DD.

reason for the SC or Turbo ... I run 37's on 5.13's with the 4.0 130k on it. Never had any engine problems, i want to keep it that way just need some extra power in the mountains and towing my camping trailer. I dont want a v8 swap or a stroker yet. Just want something that's reliable enough for long hails down to the Rubicon trail, Moab and Dusy Ershim etc. leaning towards the Supercharger.... Thanks ahead of time.

I installed a Sprintex supercharger in mine a couple months ago and like it a lot. I get better pick up on the freeway and it performs well off-road too. I was up in the air too between Banks and a supercharger. Looked at several different supercharger kits including the DYI M62/M90. Went the direction I did, because it was a complete kit and a easy install. If you like tuning yourself, I would say go with the M62/M90 kits. Good luck in your decision.

thanks for the post. I just looked sprintex up. looks about the same torque curves as the banks and prices as well. its a tough decision . Theres an Eaton kit made out already with the tuner worked out for around 2500. just dont know how well any these would hold up to a 10 plus hr drive to the trails.

I daily drive my 03 with an m62 kit on it. I've got about 15k miles on the kit and 180k on the motor. The original supercharger included with my kit was worn out when I got it. I bought a new replacement on ebay for $200. Since then there's been no reliability issues. The tune isn't like what you'd expect from oem. But its workable. Contact CobraMarty here or jeep forum if you're interested. He's not who I bought my kit from, but seems to be alot more willing to help people out and is easily gotten ahold of through the forums.

Yeah i have actually. I've talked to Chris about buying that kit since i've seen his post. i have to wait a couple more weeks if it's not their i'll buy it from Cobramarty. I read one post about how you start sucking down gas once you pass 2500 rpm. i get about 12-13 mpg and the op said he was getting around 8mpg in higher rpms (2500^) if i remember right.... With 37's and 5.13's i run at 2800- 3200 on a day to day basis. what kind of mileage are you seeing ? also the kit is for a m90 not a m62 not sure of the overall difference in the two besides the m90 being bigger. I read somewhere that Cobramarty didn't think the m90 would run as well as a m62 ... but like i said i don't know much about superchargers. i've just started to learn about them, i'm more of a fabricator. Any info helps.

I've had the banks kit (non intercooled) on my LJ for a year now. the jeep with the turbo is awesome! i installed it myself, and it couldn't be a more complete kit. comes with everything. i still have three years of payments and i'm not at all scared that i turbo'd it. awesome on and off road.the install is super clean.you really caint go wrong with it. with your mileage i would change your cats if you have the double pre-cats like i did. At 81k my cats where allready showing damage and sense the turbo is down stream from the cats i ordered the new y-pipe before i even tore into the install.

Thanks for info on the banks kit,Glad it's working good for ya. i was gonna pull the trigger on that turbo since i already had the Banks power pack till I saw this m62 SC. I'm doing as much research as i can till then.... I got 2wks to make a choice.
I like knowing its somewhat cheap to rebuild the M62 SC and parts readily available.
the double pre cats are expensive... but i should check them out. thank you .

i think i paid around$350 for the complete 3 cat y pipe @rock auto. same part # same brand sells @Advanced auto for over $700. mine where failing and would have been needed to be replaced soon anyway. weather i was getting a turbo or not. theese jeeps are known to have pre-cat falure around that 80-100k mark. i had no indications that mine were going bad but i figured it would be good insurance to get that done at the same time as the turbo install. i was sure glad i had a new one sitting there when i pulled the old one off and half of the brick on one of the pre-cats was broke and had allready slid down 2 inches

I doint think new cats fail all the time. but cats with 80kplus are getting to the end of there life. Early cat failure will be caused by another problem that will likely throw some codes. The banks kit comes with a diablo sport tuner, so reading the codes is easy. I'm just suggesting if you want to do the banks and you have some miles on your jeep then you might consider replacing the y pipe at the same time.

Either a turbo or supercharger will be hard on your cats. You run much richer when under boost and your cats have to burn any leftover fuel. Just seems like a bad plan to have them in front of your turbo. Nothing Banks can do about it though because any change would require changing the jeep emission system. But it is something to keep in mind when choosing a system.

You did the right thing by putting new cats on before installing your kit.

I just installed the Jon Bond Performance kit on mine. It's a Eaton based kit with a Split Second tuning solution and 7th injector. We did the install over Thanks giving weekend. Really simple only ran I to one issue, They sent me the wrong belt with my kit but solved that the next day. I am really impressed with the response of this kit. I was going with the Sprintex or Banks and I called Sprintex and they couldn't answer any of my questions regarding installing on my 02 TJ, hell they sent me to Jon Bond who builds his own kits and I went with his Kenny Bell type kit and it was really simple to install. He was very conscious to label all vacuum hose etc.

You need to call them and talk to Jon, he is super nice and extremely knowledgeable on his product. He worked with me for about 2/months answering questions. You won't be disappointed. I'm actually afraid to freaking drive mine in the rain. That sum bitch gets crazy squirrley on wet pavement with the boost comes online. And I have at lest 50-60% Tread on my tires. So it's not like I'm running around on bald tires spinning in the rain. I was so about to re-gear I'm a money to power kinda person. If I'm spending money in performance aspect. Just re-gearing does not net you H.P. gain at all. It only allows recovered lost torque from suspension up grades and tires and wheels that's it. You in fact go negative net gain because you dump a grand into your axels to recover what's already been paid for. By going forced induction you are buying horsepower about $25-$30 per 10hp my kit gives me about 130hp to the crank which will translate about 80-90/to the wheels. I will post up my tune and dyno results when I go have it tuned up from 5lbs to 8lbs. Give Jon a call you won't be disappointed.

Well. It's and Unfortunate truth. Your Jeep produces horsepower and adding shit to it only makes its already grunty motor a bit sluggish. Re-gearing pulls your lost torque back up. It doesn't add HP. It feels that way because your response is better with what you started with. Buying displacement or forced induction are the only ways to get significantly more horse power. Adding cold air intakes and all that jazz do a modest bump in response of throttle but unless paired with increased displacement or induction they are relatively useless.

and by not regearing, you are still leaving power on the table as your gears are not the proper ones for your rig. yes, adding forced induction will add power, but its like putting 16" coilovers on a vehicle that is limited to 10" of travel, you'd be better off getting your vehicle set right before dumping thousands into other areas

I agree, everyone wants a perfect set up. But, I feel alot more confident with setting up a supercharger over setting gear backlash. I run 33's on mine and I will never go any bigger, because I use it to get back in the woods to hunt and drive it every day. 3:73 aren't optimal but not bad before but now I can focus on my forged internal motor build and when this one decides to shit the bed I will be ready to just pull this one, rebuild the supercharger and add a bigger pully and slap it on my other motor then pull the gears and have someone who knows what they are doing set them right. Forced induction is an expensive upgrade but the more we get people involved we can get these kits more affordable.

The reason I did just jump in and had 2 months worth of questions. I wanted to compare the technical data with the tuning solution. That's the biggest problem with boosting is having a reliable tuning solution. As pointed out with Sprintex, they only offer the hard ware for the kit, you have to buy the tuning solution based on what in injectors your running and engine mods. Where as with Jon his kit comes with the tuning solution already mapped for your kits specs from Split Second. It's not as bad as it seems to ponder all my options prior to the purchase. I just wanted know what I was getting for the price, which kit allowed more options for when I wanted to drop my other forged internal motor in. What advice on mapping with forged internals etc. This all comes down to being able to switch this set up on my other motor when its time. Plus I had to do this shit without my wife finding out as well.
