Edge Trail Jammer Noise Anyone?

I just put the cold air intake, throttle body and computer on my Jeep. I noticed a descent amount of power gain. I also noticed that under light to med acceleration that it has a kind of annoying whistle or whine to it. I was wondering if anyone else has used this kit and experienced the same thing

I put a Cold air intake on a vehicle I had before the jeep and just that alone made a whistle like sound that was kinda annoying. That may be what you are hearing!!

You will notice a bit of a whine because of the new intake. On my sister's ZJ(w/ 4.0L) with an intake it whistles a little. I don't know what brand the kit is, but there is a deffinatle whistle.

I pulled of the intake and it does it, but it is louder with the intake on it. I think the intake tube amplifies it. It seems like it happens when the butterfly in the intake turn slightly and the air coming into the idle air control changes.

The sound of more air intake, kind of like a turbo, not as pronounced.

I've had multiple intakes on full size GM's I've owned. But this seems different it like a screetching noise... I guess I had a brain fart calling the module a compter...

Just installed the same kit with the same result. Is there a fix for this.

Hey fella's, it's the 62mm throttle body that is causing the whistle. I've changed to all kinds of tubes with my Trail Jammer setup and have come to the conclusion that it's actually the bigger throttle body sucking more air in that's doing it.

the fix is go back to stock
also why would you like a "fix" for one of the sexiest sounds an engine can make?

Jack
putting an intake with the stock throttle body also causes whistling.

The reason why you hear it now and you dont with the stock tubes is because the stock pipe muffles it a lot while now its free to go.

When I bought my jeep it came with the full trail jammer kit TB, module, and intake tube and filter. It was not installed yet. After installation two things happened, one, I notice a big change in throttle response, and the motor ran out better. IE no hesitation anywhere in the rev range. I did not notice any huge difference in power, just smother power delivery. 2 a somewhat loud intake whistle. The K&N setup on my dads chevy does the same thing so I thought it was normal. After a week or so of the whistle noise I got fed up and emailed trailjammer to see if there were alot of other complaints, and if there was a cure. this is the response I got back!

Josh,

We do have some modifications we can make to the throttle body that should help. With a cold air intake, it will never be as quiet as stock, but it should help. If you are interested in this there is a couple ways we can fix it. The first way is we would issue you a RMA#, and have you send the throttle body to us, and when we receive it we would send you one with the new design. The second way is we can send you one, with a UPS return shipping label to bring the one you currently have back to us, but we would require a credit card to do it this way to insure we get the old one back. As long as we got the old one back we would not charge the card. Either way, we will need your complete physical shipping address to issue the RMA#. Let us know what you would like to do.

Thanks,

Cody Chatelain

Just to let you know it made a huge difference in the noise department, now I have just a good strong intake sound and no whistle. I don't know if they are still offering this as they were supposed to be retooling all of the new TB they sent out, but it may be worth a try. FYI: all they did was machine a small part of the TPS hole. I saw a picture of it on one of the jeep forums, some guys were doing the mod at home with just a dremel tool.
Cheers!

Yes! There is a hole in the TB below the butterfly valve that is in a rectangle shape. On the old one it was just sharp edge all the way around, on the on they returned to me the edge of the hole closest to the butterfly was machined to bevel inward towards the sensor. I know there are pics on one of the forums. I will try and track it down. This is a link to jeep forum, not the pics I was thinking of but helps a little.http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=488773
