Educate me please. I bought a lifted Jeep.

Long story short...

I bought an 03 Sport 6 cyl 5 speed from a dealer and I have owned it for about a week with zero problems. I went and did my first mod and bought myself a couple of all weather mats to protect my carpet. So far am loving it, I cam from the Subaru side and sported an 06 WRX that I also loved, just started to cost me alot more than I needed so I had to part out.

So, I ask you, Wrangler forum. Are you like NASIOC and love to flame the new guys, or will you help a brother out and tell me things I should check for or tell me about.

Ive always wanted a jeep, I saw an oppurtunity to snag a deal from a dealer and pulled the trigger on it. A few pics to give the ride a name.

Agreed. You will find a lot nicer people on here than other forums. Looks good. Nice to have a hard top for when it rains everyday. It looks like a new exhaust and a 1" BL. What size tires are you running? Check underneath it for any nasty rust or damage and if there is none then just enjoy the ride.

Thanks doc. It is very very clean underneath and it is running a magnaflow axle back exhaust that might as well be a stock replacement.

There is an air raid intake along with what looks like a throttle body spacer but I'm not sure.

Nice find and welcome to a group that won't bust your chops, if they do, it's generally just for fun. I'm jealous of the blacked out windows, I'd never get away with that here!

Take some pics from the front where the control arm mounts to the bottom of the axle. Joints can tell a lot about a lift. Does it have quick disconnects in the front? Take a pic of them with the spring in the background. Also if you could take a pic looking at the rear driveshaft going into the transfer case and the rear upper control arms. (Never mind I can see you have a tcase drop kit)

You've got the aftermarket 4" wide fender flares on it

Just from you pics I'm betting a rubicon express 3.5" on 33" tires. Can we have a cleaner pic from the rear profile as well?

Welcome to the forum! The home of no flaming.

I would have to do this everytime I saw a cop! They WILL pull you over and write you a ticket here in VA, infact, I'm illegal as it is with 40% on the front windows, the back doesn't matter. Stupid law!

Looks like a nice Jeep. Just a guess, but it looks like a 4" RC lift with ~32" tires (maybe 31" or 33"). I can see the spacer for the transfer case and wider 7" fender flares.

What makes me think it is a 4" rough country lift? The shock body, the transfer case spacer, and the angle of the control arms (which look like the control arms from the more expensive 4" lift they offer). I also see that the wheelbase has been pulled in (it happens when Jeeps are lifted and the control arms aren't lengthened to compensate).

Good luck with the Jeep and post some more pics. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. I bought my first jeep less than six months ago and have always enjoyed being a part of the forum. The people on this forum are always willing to give constructive advice. I also like the solid green color.

Welcome to the asylum. We've all escaped our rooms and locked the guards up in our places.

Nice find on the Jeep, I don't have enough experience to answer the questions about lift etc but if you're looking to do any more work to it you shouldn't overlook protecting the body from rust. I would pull up the carpets and look for rust. Assuming you don't find any, plan on pulling out the interior and coating the bottom with a roll-in bed liner to protect it. Putting the carpets back after is optional. If you find rust you'll want to treat it before you seal it with bed liner. There are many threads about this, do a search and you should find all the answers you need.

That was what I first noticed by how far the rear is pulled forward in the fender well. I would suggest getting longer adjustable control arms to push the rear back and this will also correct the rear spring that i am sure is curved due to this. It may also help how it rides too when you correct the spring geometry back to normal.

I will make note of the control arms, thank you.

I noticed a slight thunk today in the steering. It almost feels as if the tires are hitting something but they definately clear, they are 32 11.50s. A previous thread in this section had a similar thunk description and the person was told to check a bushing near the axle for wear. It only thunks when the wheel is turned slightly and it's always in the same spot and it's not very loud. The ride quality is surprisingly good. Not to bumpy but
definately feel the ground

Thanks guys

Welcome to the Forum. All these guys are putting on an act. We don't like helping Noobs. AHHH I'm pulling your chain. You won't find a friendlier group of Jeep enthusiasts on the internet than right here. You'll also find for the most part that when encountering other Jeep enthusiast out on the road or trail, they're just as friendly. You definitely got a nice Jeep there. Enjoy the fun it will bring you as well as some hardships. Hopefully you have a very understanding wife or girlfriend, because when the Jeep craze takes over, she might get jealous.

most of texas is pretty lenient. i have 10% in the front and limo in the back on my dodge ram. so far ive only gotten pulled over for my blacked out tail lights but it was by an aggie cop, it figures

and yeah, i agree with everyone else about the jeep forum being relaxed. ive only had a little trouble with some of the people here but it was nothing compared to the dodge forum. stay away from there unless you have a hemi. theyll tear you apart!!!
