Engine change Question

My cousin found a 98 Wrangler with a hard top, hard doors, 4 cy 5 speed. Problem is, the owner thinks his daughter over revved the engine and he thinks it is blown. He can get it for under 2000. How hard would it be to change the 4 cylinder out to a 6 cylinder? What else will he have to change?

its pretty common. you'll need a lot more parts than just the engine, you'll need complete wiring harness, computer, transmission and t case, and the motor mounts have to be cut and rewelded on the frame, they are different between the 4 and 6 cylinder.

or, you buy it, slap a 400 dollar engine in it, sell it for 5 grand and buy a 6 cyl jeep, just a thought.

where is it, if you don't want it i'll buy it and do that.

Went and looked at the Jeep. It was a 2000 Wrangler, 4cyl, 5speed, hard doors, new soft top, only rust is under passenger side door, Super Clean. The owner said that his daughter was driving it over to trade for one of his trucks and it just quit running. They towed it the extra 2 miles and that is where it has set since Winter. Lucky sob got it for 1750$. I about passed out. Were gonna pick it up this weekend, and I will post a pic. Some people are so lucky.
Thanks again for the info...

Yep, I told him the forum is a MUST.. I've learned more about my Jeep in a month than I learned about my Durango in the 5 years I owned it.
