Engine light stuck in snow

Got stuck in some snow then when my buddies truck tried pulling me out it just sucked into the ditch some more and it was on a pretty good angle still running , don't know if that has anything to with it. But engine light came on and eventually we got it out , it doesn't feel like there's anything wrong but what could be the reason it came on and is still on ?

Check the code using the diagnostic on the cluster. Could be anything from a bad O2 sensor to your gas cap coming loose. Turn the key on and off 3 times.

Do as was advised above, turn the ignition on-off-on three times within five seconds and leave it in the On position. Give it several seconds after leaving it in the On position, any stored codes will start displaying in the odometer display. This works for all years with the exception of '98-'00. Pushing the odometer reset button only puts the gauges through their paces.

And there is likely nothing really wrong, a CEL is smog-system related and the computer just noted something unusual which is what happened when your Jeep got stuck. My CEL can come on just on some unusually tough trails when it thinks my engine rpms are too high for too long at low speeds.

Could be this... a TSB addresses that P0573 problem. But before running to the dealer, check that your brake light switch up above the brake pedal hasn't come loose or is out of kilter from your recent offroad trip.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Intermittent 4WD Lamp Or DTC P0573 - Brake Switch #1 Circuit High
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.
MODELS:
2005 (KJ) Liberty/Cherokee (All Markets)
2005 (TJ) Wrangler
NOTE: For TJ vehicles with an intermittent 4WD lamp illumination condition this
bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to February 14, 2005 (MDH 0214XX).
NOTE: For vehicles with the DTC P0573 condition, this bulletin applies to KJ
vehicles equipped with a 3.7L (sales code EKG) and built prior to June 16,
2005 (MDH 0616XX) and to TJ vehicles equipped with a 4.0L engine (sales
code ERH) built prior to June 10, 2005 (MDH 0610XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) new software addresses the following possible
conditions and/or improvements:
1. A Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination due to DTC P0573 - Brake Switch #1
Circuit High (KJ or TJ).
2. An intermittent illumination of the “4WD” lamp in the instrument cluster when in two
wheel drive (2WD) mode (TJ only).

Same thing with my 2005 4 years ago. Got hug up in the snow and couldn't get out. Had the code read and it was my 3rd brake light. In about 4 or 5 weeks of driving it cleared and has never returned. That was the only code stored, Doesn't make a lot of sense ,does it.
