So, I just bought a 2002 TJ 4.0l 5 speed manual (presume it is the NV3550) with 94k on it from a friend who can't remember what motor oil or transmission fluid he had put in it or when he changed it last! So, I am going to do a maintenance job on it (fluid changes, maybe spark plugs Autolite APP985 or Champion 7034). I am using this jeep as my daily runner and weekend ski tripper
Have read a lot in this forum, and found a link from another forum as to the fluid capacities etc. I live in the North East and winter is approaching. My transmission shifts OK, fairly smooth, whines a bit in first and second which is probably normal. Sticks a little bit when cold getting into second and third. As far as the engine goes again fairly smoothish once warmed up but still hear the valves (or injectors?) clicking and tapping. Again presume this is normal for this engine and I should not be too bothered!
Still a bit indecisive about what to use! Regular or synthetic, high mileage 10w30 or a different grade. As for transmission fluid heard good things about Royal Purple synchronmax. Any suggestions on both?
