Engine squealing - any advice?

I have an '05 TJ, 4.0 manual. When I am accelerating, the engine makes a high pitch squeal. It sounds like a belt. The things is, it only happens between 1500 and 2000 RPMs, regardless of what gear I am in. It also doesn't make this noise all the time. Also, It doesn't make the noise if its in neutral and I rev the engine, only when I am actually driving.

Any one have any ideas?

Thank you!

U can also easily pull the belt off and see if the noise goes away. If so, it's the belt or a pulley. Don't run the engine for long though because the water pump won't be working. A stethoscope works great to or a long screwdriver, to isolate noises

When you drive your motor is under 'load'. So that may cause the belts to squeak. It might also be a bad bearing in one of your accessory pulleys.

What I'd do first is check the tension of all your belts. Look at the underside. If you see a waxy shiny coating on one of them then that's the one that's slipping.

What i'd do next is get some 'belt dressing' spray. Spray it on. Go for a drive, if it cures your problem then you know its the belts.

If you have tried the above and still have a noise then I'd take all the belts off and shake, wobble, and turn all your pulleys by hand. One might be tighter than the rest, or have a bit of a wobble.

If none of the above works, then it might be time to go to a mechanic. also make sure your fluids are all up to proper levels.
