Enough to make a grown man Cry

when we desided to get a Jeep,I researched on line for the best model and price for us.I found one in KY it was a 2000 Sahara loaded with 14 thousand miles on it. I asked is that odometer right?or has it turned over. no, the salesman replied it's right.he went on I'm a friend of the past owner,he bought this new from me.took it out hunting 1 time.said he didn't really like it,or have time for it.the Jeep sat in the garage for 8 years. the dealship said they were having a hard time trying to sell it, due to the low mileage.no one believed it.we had to put new tires on it,as the old ones had plenty of tread, but they were dry rotted.my wife and I went out to look at it.it was like new.except we couldn't hardly get the doors open.my wife and I tugged and pulled, finally got them open.took it for a drive, the engine purred like it was new, which it was.tranny was crisp. we went back to the dealership, the salesman met us, do you like it? yes, I replied, before I could say a price, the salesman said I,can't take under 8 for it.my jaw dropped,Jeeps are high buck here.after the paper work was done and we were preparing to leave.the sales man said oh, good you drove a pickup.I'm really glad the hardtop is on the Jeep, this would of took alot longer.I kept thing what? he said back the truck up to the service bay. I did, still not knowing what to expect.I said whats going on? do I get a new spare engine or what? cute he said, no this Jeep has a soft top the half doors, the storage bags, and a top boot.the last owner ordered this loaded like I said. man! I thought my ship came in. we got home un loaded the pickup,I was looking at eveything closely, the top looked like it had never been installed. I was really excited by now.I unzipped the half doors, they were bent all to hell.I found a note from the old owner,it went. Sorry, my 11 year old son used these for a bike ramp to jump his bike from.there were bike tire marks across the length of them, and creases. I turned them over the door panel same color as the interior scratched and dug up,the other side painted the same color as the Jeep.I wanted to cry. I spent the next couple months changing hinges. the only thing I found bad from it being in storage, the steering gearbox has a drip from the seals being dried out, will change later.not too bad now.

Lucky...when my buddy bought my Jeep for me (he's part owner of the dealership that I work for) he was told by the elderly couple that, "Oh...we bought this and never went anywhere with it. We just liked being able to cruise around with the grandkids with the top down."

Funny...I dug an awful lot of mud out from underneath the battery and every other crevice they couldn't get with a garden hose/pressure washer...

When I bought mine the guy said "I would like to tell you it's never been in the mud..." to which I replied "If you did I would walk away from a liar right now." It was all honesty from then on, and I bought at a fair price and we were all happy.

You don't have to try and get one over on people...

Nothing better than the look people give you when you tell them how low your mileage it. Got my 98 TJ from my grandparents w/ 35k miles. When ppl ask how many miles are on it and i tell them i always get the same response "you mean 135k miles" and i always laugh and say "no only 35k"

Congrats on the great purchase!!!

14k miles is superb!
Sux about the doors, though. But in the grand sceme of things, I'd rather be worried about buying new doors than a new motor and/or tranny and/or axles!

I paid $8500 for my 99 Sport, with 85k miles. It seems that they hold their resale pretty well.

Nice find!

I just purchased a hard top 2001 Wrangler with 64,700 for $13,500. I purchased it, brought it home, called the sales person about whatever and he said "oh ya, we have the soft top for it if you want to come back and get it". It's brand new looking.

Here in Denver Wranglers hold their value so well.

I really don't believe this Jeep has been out in the mud,I spent a lot of time under it replacing the cat coverter and putting a Banks exhaust system on it. I couldn't see any mud any where on it. the frame is still black. only has a little rust on the tow hitch and the front sway bar on the left side. I was amazed.who buys a Jeep and doesn't drive it? oh yeah when the orginal owner took it hunting,he got tired and went to rest in the Jeep. sitting in the driver's seat he put the wooden handle of his ice scraper through the door jam to hold the door open. for got about it . got out, tried to shut the door.theres a round dent in the door and the door jam of the tub, about a half inch on each side. guess thats the dent I have to live with,as the paint is excellant on the rest. there is one pic on my details ,have more haven't figgered out how to load them.I thought it told me that I'd used my photo space up,Tom

I would like add ,funny thing this Jeep has never been repainted, The Forest Geen Pearl shines like a new penny.but if you get down and look across the hood you can see where they painted over dust and grit, under the shine. Good ol Chrysler LOL
