I've seen some places with ethanol free gas charging .20-.30 more than the place across the street with ethanol and I've seen places where it's only .05 more.
So my question is, what's the most extra you've ever paid for ethanol free gas and where do you draw the line? What's the point where it's too much more for you?
Its consistently around $0.20 higher here. I don't buy it since any efficiency gains would be less than the increased price. I do fill my carburated motorcycle with it before storing it though.
Exactly. You've got to do the math and determine if it is a better value for you or not.
In my case, I'm lucky: the gas station closest to my house carries E0 (pure gasoline). However, they only have it in mid-grade. The price increase is about 5% over E10 mid-grade fuel; so if I can go more than 5% further on a gallon of E0 than I can on E10, it's a better deal for me. For my vehicle which I run on mid grade (the Suburban), I can go 10% further on E0 than E10... thus it's a better deal for that vehicle.
The Jeep, OTOH, runs quite happily on regular unleaded. The jump from regular E10 to mid-grade E0 is financially large enough that I end up losing money. As a result, I continue to save money and run regular E10 in the Jeep.
All the stations around Boise that carry E-0 charge 5¢ more. Never have I seen one more than that. I use it in my generator and ALWAYS fill the vehicles I am storing for a season, with it and Seafoam. Have left a GM set for 18 months stored that way and had NO problems starting or running the tank out afterwards.
