Exhaust

I've heard others getting different mufflers and exhaust systems. I've heard of Flowmaster, glass, etc. I've also contemplated getting a cherry bomb or just straight piping it. Any suggestions on what works/sounds best?

Decide on the sound you want and go from there. You aren't going to make any real performance gains from installing an aftermarket exhaust on your Jeep. I suggest checking local laws too, as some states have noise standards for the vehicles both on the street & trails.

I'm interested in this too as I dont like my singer sewing machine sound Wrangler. I'm thinking a Turbo muffler and 2 1/4" pipe. I had this on my old CJ and 258 /6 with headers ...sounded mellow yet had a bit of bark. I dont need it as loud as my Harley. The older I get I need the raspy crackly stuff mellowed.

I also suggest the banks system. i had a "turbo" style muffler and 2" tubing installed on my wifes 05 unlimited, and ended up paying as much for it as the banks system i put on my 03. you might as well get the nice stainless system if you are going to spend that much anyways. i see specials on ebay all the time with free shipping and no sales tax!

I had a Cherry bomb Vortex on my Frontier that I had before my Jeep. I was really pleased with the sound that it produced. No real gain in power but did make it sound better

Had them on various cars before... You can get the Pro series muffler & clamps from Summit Racing for less than $60. "Disturbing the peace since 1968" should say something for the sound

Just started running a flowmaster masterpak (~$80). Good rumble, but not enough to be bug me on the daily drive.

I put this Thrush on mine. It looks and is built like a Flowmaster. Has a slight bark at low RPM, and actually quiets down as RPM rises. Very faint sound on the highway.

I agree, I have one too. Mine is the loudest when I am at just under 2000 rpm's. I have been happy with mine.

Sorry to say that you aren't going to improve the performance of your Jeep with any bolt on mods. If you really want more performance out of it, you are going to have to put in a stroker or change gears.

I am thinking about a Dynomax cat back. I dont really care about the sound, and am aware not much performance will be added (other than replacing the rotted out muffler on there now). Is there a cheaper way to go? I figure this was a good bang for the buck.

You gotta be carefull, I havent changed my exhaust yet, but i have done a few buddys mufflers, Its easy to get carried away and just sound like a faint dumptruck with a blown turbo. Do your headers, and eliminate your ristrictors.... only way its ganna open it up.

I have to agree with Wheel2Work. Decide on the sound you want and go from there. I listened to so many Utube videos that they all started to sound the same. I eventually went with the Flowmaster 40 series and like the tone a lot.

I have watched the same....they all sound like ricers to me. Also, not sure why people put their camera phone 2 feet from the tail pipe and rev. Gawd, set the camera back 10-15 feet.

My old samuri that I had 20 years ago sounded great with a cherry bomb glass pack and a resonating tip. Probably what I will do to this 2.5L some day.
