exhaust popping

I am a new jeep owner. 2005 wrangler with a 2.4. Yes, I know it has no power. Is it normal to hear popping or gurgling noise from the tailpipe on these engines? It is more noticeable during deceleration but pretty much does it all the time. I don't know if it has original exhaust or not. The noise isn't loud just very noticeable to me. Sounds like a lot of other 4 cylinder cars that have aftermarket exhaust. Also reminds me of how vw beetles use to sound. Don't see any exhaust leaks or loose connections. Although did previously tighten two bolts to manifold pipe connection previously with no effect. Thanks. Also, car runs well just wonder about noise.

yeah sounds like there might be an aftermarket exhaust. i have a 2.5 with a banks and when slowing down there is a little bit of a gargle to it in between shifts into 2nd and 3rd and when you slow down while still in gear.

I know that was a while back so I hope you fixed the popping. What was the problem? I just bought a 97 with a 4 cyl and it runs fine but started popping and it's really annoying.
