Factory Fogs on a 99 TJ

I noticed on my TJ that when I bought it 7-8 months ago there were no factory fog lights on the front bumper. I figured that whoever owned the jeep before me just removed them but I don't see any wire connectors for them. Do all TJ's come with factory wiring for the fogs even if they are not installed??? I looked up under the front area and tried to follow from the headlights cause I figured they would be tapped in from there but I don't see anything. Whats up with that?? any ideas?

Factory fogs are optional on some models.

if i recall they only came standard on the sahara model but many people, like myself, installed them on their sport or SE and made sure to also mod them to work with high beams.

The fog light plug is under the fender flair, near the blinker. All jeeps use the same general wiring harness, so the plugs should be there.

This is not entirely true. While I have seen some TJs without fog lights that had the wiring harness for them, I have also seen many (and I've owned three of them, including my current one) that were built without fog lights and that do not have the harness for them.

I'll have to check mine tomorrow. My bumper is lonely and is in need of more light. I do know that there are no switches for me in the controls so I'd at least have to do that part.

I think it was standard on the Sahara and optional on the Sport and SE.

The 01 TJ sport doesn't have fogs nor did I see any wiring harness for it.

My 01 TJ Sport came with the fog lights. I didn't buy it new, but I bought it from the original owner, and he said they were stock.

I'm pretty sure it's just an add-on and is not standard on the sport package. My g/f's dad bought it brand new and it never had the fog lights nor the tow hooks. Oh well, I'm slowly adding options it didn't come with.

my 99 has factory wiring up front, with some aftermarket lights there that are inop now. But i have a factory fog light switch by my right knee, almost behind the wiper control on the dash, and also a factory fog light switch down under the radio where the three switch panel is...whats up with that?

You will have to check. I also have a '99 TJ and installed the Mopar fog lights. My rig was not pre-wired for the foggers, so I had to buy the whole Mopar kit (lights, covers, and wiring harness). Was pretty easy to wire from what I remember - only real issue I had was getting the wiring thru the firewall to the switch inside. There's a gromet if I remember, on the passanger side on the firewall and I was able to go thru there, behind the glove box, and get to the center console where the switch is located.

Edit - definitely bypass the high-beam cut-off. I know it isn't "technically" legal in many states (including here in PA), but there have been numerous times when the high beams and foggers have helped tremendously around here. I did not bypass the high-beam when I initially installed. Within about a month, it was.

One by your knee was an add on for off-road lights... Dealers have a great kit (including the harness) that mounts in that location. Third switch position was for factory fogs lights... Also sold as an option on many models (including my '00 Sport). The vehicle many times requires an additional harness to be installed from the relay position to the lights.
