Factory Service/Hayne's/Chilton's Manual

If I wanted to start doing some full on service to my '97 TJ, where should I start for assembly/disassembly/repair/replacement reference material (besides this forum of course)?

Use the factory manual for your year, the Haynes and chilton manuals are generic and not year specific.

Thanks for a quick reply!

This might be obvious to most but where can I get a factory service manual for my year (1997)?

Dont the Chiltons and Haynes manuals cover servicing for various yrs, etc?
I hope so, I'm in the same boat as the OP and have a Haynes on the way.

Now I would like a factory manual too...

Look around ebay, probably your best shot. Picked up a full set for about $35

You could always go to Pep Boys or something and see if they have a copy of the Haynes/Chilton manuals to look through and see if it has what you need. They don't charge you to look at it.

Chiltons and Haynes share the same problem... both attempt to cover too many models and model years into one thin book to be all that accurate on any particular model.

Too many of their illustrations say "should look like this" but that will vary from year to year. Besides, their books are known for having errors in them.

I would and do only rely on the official Mopar Factory Service manual. It is accurate and has far more detail & precise instructions for doing every conceivable job.

Do a search on this forum and you may find someone who can get you one for your year.

Alldata/DIY.com will give you specific information for your year and model... It also has very nice exploded diagrams and step by step instructions on how to do most thing on the vehicle too...

This is the software that I use I have the professional version and love it because it is always being updated with current recall information and also gives estimated times for labor on jobs...

It cost about $50 a year, but more than worth it...
