Failing brakes, help?

So my brake light is on, and the only way i can brake is when i push the pedal all the way down and then they lock up. I thought it was the fluid but when i put some in, nothing happened and it doesn't seem like i'm losing fluid. So i'm thinking either the master cylinder is out or a brakeline is shot... before they went out the brakes would groan as i used them. Any thoughts? I appreciate any ideas before i take it in and spend a million bucks.

well get ready to give that mechanic an arm and a foot for repairs... mine wanted $730 to do the breaks, calipers rotors pads and a flush, I got it down to $560... it sucks but its worth it so i don't have to worry about it n there's a good warranty on the parts.

Wow, those two rotor pics above are absolutely amazing. I've never even dreamed rotors could get that bad before being replaced. Some people are just clueless on the fact that their vehicles need to be taken care of.

I went on a 4x4 trip with a friend from British Columbia who was wheeling a FS Wagoneer, we were running decommissioned logging roads which haven't been driven on for years, needless to say they were pretty dangerous with all the switchbacks and 700ft drops without anything to stop you from going over the edge. Long story short, not a week after our trip he tells me his GF was driving down the road, hit the brakes and crunch. The caliper literally crushed the rotor at the RF and everything fell to pieces. The salt water in the air from the ocean over time completely rotted out the rotors.
