Fake 0.50 Cal Mounted on Jeep Legality Question

Im a new guy on the forums and a thought came to my mind after looking at some pictures of jeeps.

Would it be legal, in the state of California(worst state for gun laws), to mount a fake .50 cal on top of my jeep?

thanks!

My vote is no. But why get a fake one? Get the real one then you can use it to blast zombies. Or blast everyone who is against guns<--- morons.

Found this. But this implys actually carrying the fake firearm, if there are any legal experts on here that have any thoughts on the below.

12550. As used in this article, the following definitions apply:
(c) "Imitation firearm" means any BB device, toy gun, replica of a
firearm, or other device that is so substantially similar in
coloration and overall appearance to an existing firearm as to lead a
reasonable person to perceive that the device is a firearm.

12556. (a) No person may openly display or expose any imitation
firearm, as defined in Section 12550, in a public place.
(d) Subdivision (a) shall not apply to the following, when the
imitation firearm is:
(13) A device where the entire exterior surface of the device is
white, bright red, bright orange, bright yellow, bright green, bright
blue, bright pink, or bright purple, either singly or as the
predominant color in combination with other colors in any pattern, or
where the entire device is constructed of transparent or translucent
materials which permits unmistakable observation of the device's
complete contents. Merely having an orange tip as provided in federal
law and regulations does not satisfy this requirement. The entire
surface must be colored or transparent or translucent.
(e) For purposes of this section, the term "public place" means an
area open to the public and includes streets, sidewalks, bridges,
alleys, plazas, parks, driveways, front yards, parking lots,
automobiles, whether moving or not, and buildings open to the general
public, including those that serve food or drink, or provide
entertainment, and the doorways and entrances to buildings or
dwellings, and shall include public schools and a public or private
college or university.
(f) Nothing in this section shall be construed to preclude
prosecution for a violation of Section 171b, 171.5, or 626.10.

This is a question best suited for the highway patrol.

I guess I'm just in a different frame of mind. It boggles me that anyone would even pose this question. It does look cool, if the Jeep was a show Jeep that only got trailered or was sitting on display somewhere not actually driven, yea. But to actually consider doing this on the highway is just ridiculous.

They could charge you for a couple things .
One would be inciting a riot charge under the terrorist riot act. ( not something you want to deal with ) federal violation ( not good )

If you were using it in a parade on a recondition military Jeep that would be cool.
But not recommended to have on as you wheel thru your banks wheel thru.

If you do it let me know how that worked out for ya.

Do like the law says. Paint it some efed-up color and and put a bright orange tip on it. How more obnoxious could that be?

That would be brandishing a firearm in a big way...it doesn't matter if it's fake or not. Same goes for a life-like bb gun, if a reasonable person preceives it as real it might as well be.

If I recall correctly when Stacey David hosted Trucks he mounted a 50cal on a project. Think it gas powered too. But yeah, you'd probably get pulled over by every patrol car you see. Better stick with shovels, jerry cans, & high lift jacks.

Here's the project. It was called Sgt. Rock. A 1941 1/2 ton Dodge 4x4. Pretty sweet build

I understand the bbgun argument to this, but a bb gun can still fire a projectile, where as a fake .50 cal I'm looking at can't even chamber a projectile, so there has to be more to the law about a fake gun, I just saw a youtube video of a guy recording a willys jeep mounted with a .50 cal parked in front of a shopping center, in cali. I guess the only way ill find out is by calling my local PD.

I doubt theres a difference in legality between an imitation gun that partially works and one that doesnt at all. IMO the point is what it looks like it is, not what it actually does. Im no legal expert but I would imagine theyre both still illegal.

Plus with the increasing number of accidental officer involved shootings why would you even want to risk it?

Might just be me, but it doesnt seem like the risk is worth it.
