Fan switch not working on 3rd speed/Heat only blows out front vents

First of all, the 3rd Fan speed was not working and after researching the issue I figured a new blower resistor would fix the problem but it did not. Secondly, air is only coming out of the front vents no matter what setting the controls are on but I noticed the controls are not working properly as they don't seem to settle on the actual picture before they work and there seems to be a lot of play in the knob. Could the temp control panel really be my issue for the fan speed issue as well? I'm kind of stumped as I have not come across anything describing just the 3rd speed not working (usually it "only works on high"). thanks!

I had to replace my whole control panel. I had the problem and that was the fix for it. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't less than $60 and not more than $100.

I had the same problem a couple years ago on my '04. Dealer at the time sold me the part for 157.17. Easy to install though.

If the wiring leading to the resistor pack you replaced was not burned or melted as is common on earlier TJs like your '99, the likely cause of the #3 fan speed not working is the fan speed switch itself.

Thanks! I kind of suspected that was it but the 3rd Speed thing not working really threw me off. Makes me wonder if replacing it will get my AC working as I can't tell if I've ever successfully selected it (hasn't worked since I bought it). But I've been so jinxed at times with this Jeep I don't think I could be so lucky (see my thread regarding the distributor screw i broke off yesterday!).

THANK YOU! Fortunately the wiring was in perfect condition so I'll be getting a fan speed switch too.

If yours is like mine, you won't be replacing just a fan switch. That part comes as a whole panel with all three controls, the fan switch, temp setting, and the A/C Heat selection switch. Good luck with your project.

You don't have to buy the whole panel as the switch is sold separately. Mopar Blower Switch I have replaced a few of these.
