Fender Flare color Gray?

Just bought a 2002 TJ Sport. My fourth jeep but first one since 1990. The fender flares are very faded, I think. Is it possible that they were gray to start with? It is navy blue with a black denim top. When I tried using Back to Black they turned a darker shiny gray but not even close to black.

The ones on my 2005 were gray when I bought it. I've since painted them black

When I got my 97 TJ a few months back, the flares were so grey that they were almost white. Multiple treatments of B2B brought them back to life, and to a very dark grey. I've also had a TJ owner tell he that he uses peanut oil to keep his from fading out.

The B2B lasts a pretty good long time between treatments. I am tempted to use the Forever Black next time, it is actually a dye.

If they are gray because of sun exposure, use a heat gun to turn them black again. Like a hotter version of a hair dryer, keep the heat gun moving and like magic, it'll start turning your flares black again. I use the cooler heat setting of my heat gun which still produces hotter air than a hair dryer puts out. It sometimes only lasts a year but heck it only takes 20 minutes to do.

Rustoleum bedliner fixes everything as far as I'm concerned. Give the jeep a bath, wipe down the flares twice with some mineral spirits, tape off and spray. I'll get a pic up in a few.

Alright, a four year old thread pops up. Can some of you guys post back on your results 4 years later. Have any of your products or methods held up?

Krylon fusion paint for plastic is going on 4 years in the Texas sun and still look great. It's at Home Depot and like stores.

I Bedlined mine 2 years ago and have put them through some pretty tight trails and they haven't chipped nor have they faded.

+1 on Krylon fusion, buddy here give them a try 3 years ago on his fender flare and still hold up and looks good until now under sunny and rainy GA.
