Finally Painted my Flares

Finally got my old faded scuffed up flares painted today....I used Duplicolor rattle can bed liner. It's what I used on my bumpers and door handles and has held up great and I wanted to have the same color on everything. Let me know what you think...

Before...

Halfway Taped...

After...

Thanks!! I did it at the same time I did my bumper. The handles were all scratched and faded so I figured why not. It has held up really well.

How do you take the flares off? Never liked masking tape.

Just remove the screws that hold them on. Most of them have square plastic nuts on the backside that you'll have to hold with a small crescent wrench or the like. Took about 30 minutes to remove my flares.

I slid index cards in between the flare and the body and taped to the cards. Worked out real good

I heard some place that you should wipe it down with alcohol as the last step. I'm not sure if it makes a difference because I do that every time. Great job! I love that stuff. Just did my headlight rings with it. I love how it comes out professional looking every time. I wonder how it would work on some of the plastic interior pieces?

it probably wouldn't hurt to give a little extra rinse with alcohol but I always just wash the surface really good and it seems to work pretty good....I like how it looks like crap when you first get it on there and then when it dries it looks awesome. I don't see why it would work just fine on the interior. It seems to have worked pretty god on my flares and they're plastic

I just had to expand that "after" pic of yours again... amazing! What a night and day difference. I think I will try it tomorrow on a few interior pieces. I'm trying to turn all of my tan stuff black. Thanks for inspiration! I painted the rockers on my 02 Hummer to cover up all the scratches over a year ago and it has not chipped or scratched once, I imagine it will hold up on the center console. Nice job again! Did you have to back out any of the flare bolts to slide the cards in?

Thanks!!! It is really crazy how big of a difference it made. I didn't have to back any bolts out. the spots that were tight I just pushed down on and slid the card in

I tried but stripped two bolts on the first flare so I quit while I was ahead.

I paint the license plate holder, that plastic piece that says Jeep behind the front bumper and the cover for the gas filler neck. Man this stuff really is addicting.

Your work here reminded me that I have always wanted to do the whole exterior of a rig in that stuff. I have seen a few but they didn't quite turn out how I would like. There is a dealer that does a killer job of it though. Has me rethinking the paint job I am about to do on my TJ.
Check out this Hummer and JK closely.
