Finally - the paint is done - i think

Let me say this was a real bitch of a project. The prep work is endless. between masking off the entire care - sanding all the little crevasses, and wiping everything down, it took many many painstaking hours of work. and i just finally hit it with 1 coat of primer (didnt feel like it needed it) and 7 cans of krylon fusion camo (i estimate it was about 4 coats).

i think it looks pretty good. i would really not want to do this again. i am tempted to let it sit overnight and hit it again with another coat???

question, when is the best time to remove the masking tape? im thinking before it completely dries (maybe in 2 hours?

I don't have a dog in this fight, but y'all have to admit that Muroc does indeed have a point. Hopefully Eddie did inform his neighbors that he would be spray painting an entire Jeep 40 feet from their vehicles, but he does admit that at least one car received some overspray. I'm sure that the landlord isn't too happy about this either.
But hey, it's done and hopefully he will offer to make amends with all involved. So that said... Eddie are you going to post some photos?

Muroc's word choice may be a little strong, but he's got a point about overspray. I rattlecanned my rock rails in my garage and had a lot more overspray than I anticipated. I had put newspaper, plastic, and a couple old sheets over everything within 4-5 feet and wished I had gone a little further. If my vehicle was in that carport I'd have been a little upset.

why did i spend countless hours sanding - scrapping taking clear coat and wax off

I could have just farted paint from 40 feet away i guess. give me a break. No cars were harmed in the making of this post - seriously give me a break.

Its dark waiting for light - picks are coming, i think it looks awesome

As long as you like it Eddie, that's what matters, it's your Jeep! Glad you got it done man! I do want to see some close ups though.

if you care too much about hurting their widdle feelings, children never learn the lessons.
You really are one of the most condescending, obnoxious and rude people I have come across in a long, long time. Take my earlier advice and try to stop being such a dick, the world already has enough.

Closer pics

took it out today and it looks great. in the sun you can see some waves on the hood - and definitely some very small spots that got over spray. im sure i could wet sand down and re-hit the hood and those spots but im happy with the way it turned out for now.

oddly enough the passenger headlight popped out and looks like the bracket broke (little silver brace that holds it in or it clips in to) any ideas how i can replace just that part or get this to stay in? seems like previous owner had jimmy rigged it and when i prepped for painting i must have disturbed it?

a few more

You can only really notice the hood waves from certain angles, everything else seems to be great. i am pleased - if i feel like it in a few months i may wet sand down and spray another coat - probably over spraying on cars for miles around with irreparable over-spray dust! :jawdrop:

Looks pretty good Eddie. Just take the hood off, scuff it up and spray a couple of good coats on it.

i want to see how well it holds up for a bit

take it for car wash etc after some mud... before i spend time redoing anything. but overall i think the jeep looks sick! especially when i think about how bad it was before...

PS for those that may car i bought the headlight bracket that holds the light in on amazon for $13... now considering a hinge mirror

The lines on the hood are from dry spray and a crappy overlap. This is why you dont try to paint an $8000 dollar vehicle with $3.20 worth of shitty paint. I woulda/ coulda had that jeep painted in OD green with a good 2k urethane that will last for years and had it look great. No offense, that hood looks like shit

Why do people have to be such dicks^... If he doesn't care, why do you. P.S. To the OP your tow hooks on your bumper are on backwards ;)
Because i tried to explain to him that it could be done for the same amount of $$$ with a quality product and have it look 1000x better with all the work he's put into it. Thats why

Oh and if he doesnt care that his tow hooks are on backwards why do you...

wait im shocked you mean i didnt get a $2000 paint job finish out of my rattle can job - hold up!!!! someone call the president. u tool shed explain to me how in NYC with out a compressor or paint gun, or really anything remotely professional you would improve your jeeps paint. if ur volunteering to hit my jeep up id be happy to do the prep work and bring it by

How much did i say paint material would cost???
Or did that slip your mind. You could have easily took your jeep all prepped to a shop with your material and had them walk around it with a paint gun in their hand for cheap. Im betting under $200 to just blast some paint on it. "Toolshed" lol. Nah i just call it like it is. I gave you sound advice that woulda left your jeep looking 1000xbetter for almost the same amount of $$$. Now you get to attempt to redo the hood with un catalyzed paint, spend more time prepping and more $$$ on crap paint that wont last.

In the original post.... 7 cans.... less than $70.00
and the prep work.. which eddie excelled at.. is more important than $3000.00 of paint.

It's a jeep thing. Painting with a rattle can.

As an investment? $100.00 of paint and sandpaper on an $8K Jeep makes more sense than $3K for a professional paint job.... no way could he sell his $8K Jeep for $11K... but it will still sell for $8K. And if he is keeping it??? He will get a lot more attention, comments from the rattle can than the $3K you want him to spend... plus... if he ever scratches it? Hey the $5.00 repair is instant.

That is the beauty of the rattle can. You actually get to DRIVE it carefree. Like a Jeep was meant to be driven.

Apparently you didnt see my post also. For a few more$$$ he could have had a durable catalyzed paint that will last for several years. Especially now that he gets to redo the hood... More labor, more sandpaper, more crappy paint. All said and done he woulda been money ahead and a much better end result had he just listened to me.

Ok. In all fairness you couldnt have because my post was on another one of his threads that is related to this.

I dont care how much time you spend prepping something but when you try to paint a vehicle with a crap product thats what your gonna get... Crap. Wont hold up, has no UV protection. First time someone spills gas on it kiss it goodbye. Use crap you get crap.

paint shops in my area quoted me $500

and how exactly do you prep / take everything off (brake lights - tape everything up) and drive your car thru dirty dusty streets, with pollen and bird crap to a shop - show up and say just walk around it with a paint gun.

Most of them said the matte paint was expensive. and the lowest quote i got was $500

so if you can tell me how i can DIY a better job im all ears, but other than that u are useless and dwelling on things that are out of my control.

as for protection cant i hit it with a few coats of matte clear?

Looks great!!!

I painted mine with the same krylon fusion OD Green camo spray paint. I had the same spray lines when I finished mine. I took mine off road 2 days after it was finished and got it covered in mud. I just used soap and water and washed it with a rag. After washing it all the lines in the paint were gone.
