First Jeep....

hello all just thought i would post up some pics of my first jeep... well tj that is.. i had a 98 xj i totalled about a month ago and bought this one after.. when i picked it up the drive home i experienced some insane shaking on the highway where i about shit my pants.. come to find out after cruising on here a couple days that it was just the notorious death wobble.. got the tires balanced and good as new..

Now about the jeep.. i would like to know everything about it i have attached a few pics of the underside to try and get an idea on the type of axles i have.. the rear is locked i know this. do they all come locked?? also will be putting a lift on sometime soon i hope.. thinkin about the RE 4.5 sf with the 3.5 springs along w/the sye/cv combo... i would like to run 33s on the stock canyons as i like the style of these particular rims.. oh and the axle says 3.73so im guessing thats my ratio which i hope can push these 33s that i will be running...

looks like a d44 so thats good, and 3.73 would be your ratio, and i think that should push your 33s ok for a while, may want to upgrade eventually if you dont like it

its a yr 2000 sport 4.0 that i picked it up for 12000 and it has around 70,000 miles on it. it was the best looking one that i had seen for a few weeks of searching.. question?? does it have dana 44 in front and rear??? they both look the same to me but im no expert.. also i checked out 4x4groupbuy and was wondering how it works.. do i need several people to purchase the same kit as me to get the deal or what?? so far it looks like i may go through them for the lift purchase b/c best prices i have seen so far..
thanks for the replys guys..

How do you know the rear is locked?? None of them come locked, the Rubicon comes with selectable lockers but unless I am way off no sport every came with factory lockers. It may have the trac-loc limited slip, but unless someone locked it, no locker.

there's and easy way to test it, jack up one size so the tire is off the ground and try to spin it, if it doesn't spin its locked, if it does spin it doesn't necessarily mean its not locked

you'll be fine with 35's and 3.73 gearing as long as u have a manual if you wanna go that high

ok i did the test and spun the left rear first.. when i did that the other one spun the same direction... i then went to the right rear and spun and the left wheel spun right along w/it. both same direction... the reason i ask if its factory is because in the glovebox there is a little sticker that says "this vehicle is equipped w/locking differentails..theres some other stuff on there but i just cant remember... maybe someone put them on aftermarket.. i dunno...

and thanks for the groupbuy info... i will probably be placing an order w/them soon.. i like the kit that comes w/the cv/sye with the package.. just curious what the usaul turnaround time is with 4x4groupbuy for anybody that has used them??

you need to just jack up one side of the rear and see if it will spin, i believe that is what he was trying to say. if you have the whole rear end jacked up, i think both wheels will spin together regardless of whether or not your locked

yeah sorry, i meant just one wheel, and no sport was equipped with factory lockers, and if they were there would be a locker switch on the dash

When I ordered my stuff from Jason, it took a couple of weeks. The RE kit will ship directly from RE and the drive shaft and SYE will come from Tom Woods. They are good people though, answered all of my questions and put up with all of my emails.

And what it means by "locking differentials is that they "lock" for 4WD... not that they have lockers.
