First Jeep

Hey guys. I have a '98 Jeep Wrangler 4 banger. My first jeep. It's in some pretty bad condition. I have a couple of problems.

#1, it seems that when my steering wheel is turned really far to the left or right, the jeep will pop out of gear for a second. I did it the other day, and it's happened many times. I pulled out of the garage, turned sharp so that I could get out of the driveway, put it in drive, then hit the gas and it won't be in gear, but it will pop in gear in 2 seconds. that gives me enough time to get the RPM's decently high not knowing what is happening, then when it pops into gear I squeel tires for a second and fly forward. I'm almost positive that's not good, and I could get into an accident...

#2, If I turn the steering wheel ALL the way to the right or left, to where it can't go any further, sit there for awhile, the car will turn off. It takes around 3 seconds. Doesn't impress the ladies when that happens

Those are the main problems for now. Another one was the leaking water on the passenger and driver side, but I read something about that, so I will check it out.

My next thing is, I wanna take it off road. But before I get myself killed, I wanna make sure I have the power and proper suspension. With me having a 4cyl, power isn't that high, especially in the low RPMs, as yall know. So, what would be some good power and suspension mods to start out with? I don't know any of the major companies that have products for our cars, so brand name, product name and maybe even a website link would be awesome.

Hate to drop all of that on yall, but I really wanna go offroad with this thing, but I need to get these problems and some mods done and dealt with before I do anything. Thanks in advance

that sounds like an idle prob. the power steering is bogging down the motor.
Maybe clean the inj/fuel system.

Find a JEEP shop & have them diagnosis your problems, it will be worth the $100. or so to get correct advise and a direction for your repairs. You HAVE to invest & not just guess, you'll be so much further ahead....
