First post! I need a gift idea for a 30-year-old new Jeep owner!

My brother just turned 30 and bought his first Jeep. He's been wanting one since he was a kid. It's a Jeep Wrangler Mountain Edition. Blue. I know this might not be the right forum, but I don't know as much about jeeps and just thought I'd take a shot by asking.

When you first got a Jeep, or even now, what one thing would you want for it? I have a budget of like $150 or maybe $200 for something really, really special.

I'm at a loss as to what to look for. He keeps it spotless and drives around the city, but loves to go offroad as well when he can. He plans to take it camping, tailgating. Everything, really. Sometimes even fishing or on the beach.

Any and all suggestions are very much appreciated. He just got a divorce a little while back and I want to help him kick this year off right.

Thanks for the reply. Seat covers might be good. But they don't seem as "fun." What is a bikini top? I looked it up and it looks like a top that just kind of shades the sun but not the sides. Am I right?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was also thinking of getting him the HID headlights. But when I converted my car it was like a $1500 upgrade to replace all the surrounding plastic and everything. Here it just seems to be a $50 kit. Is that legit? I don't want to just buy him headlights with a blue tint.

that would be preferance for him, i don't like blue lights on a jeep, but that is me, a love my bikini top had it with every jeep I have owned, it shades the person as well as keeps them a little dry if a sudden rain comes and is easier to put on then the full top

I would have to say ditto to the Quadratec gift certificate or somethin like it. Each JeeP is an individual thing...we all want it our own way. Even if it takes us a while to figure out what that is

No gift certificate. It looks like I'm going to be going with Sun Bonnet. That is the one suggestion that is so far undisputed.

Different tops are always a great idea for a Jeeper.

My suggestion is to buy Bestop, and only Bestop. I've had great luck with their products.

another good things would be some tools that will come in handy...but they aren't considered "fun" by lots of people...I love getting tools, but my Wife would kick me if I bought her tools.

oh, and for tools my suggestions would start off with a quality air gauge for tires, maybe an air pump. Vlair makes some nice stuff from what i've seen. but they start very close to 200.00. could also get recovery stuff like recovery straps (without metal hooks, and rated >20k lbs).

There's lots of things you could get, but I will have to agree a different top is one of the "most fun".

What part of the country does he live in? that could impact some decisions as well.

Gas card

Kidding aside, that's a pretty open ended question. With so many options available & not knowing his vision makes it a bit of a stab in the dark. However, since you seem like the kind of brother any member on here would be grateful to have I'll take stab at it...

Don't knock the seat covers. I'd to love have a nice set of waterproof covers. I have cloth seats that are ok, but a Jeep is built for outdoor use. Between my kids, fishing, & numerous beach trips my seats are starting to show wear & I've only had it since March.

Trailer hitch. If not already equipped a must have for any Jeep owner IMO.

If equipped with a trailer hitch, then a hitch mounted cargo rack. I've been known to drive weeks at time with mine on.

Nice set of motorcycle mirrors for when the doors are off. Just make sure you match his jeep. Don't get chrome if there's no one piece on his Jeep.

Husky floor mats. Not the most exciting thing I know, but they're custom made to fit & make for easy clean up.

Bikini or safari tops are nice. I use mine constantly.

A trail cover if only equipped with a hardtop & no garage.

Hardtop hoist/wench if he has a garage & no help

Set of fog lights

A new stereo, speakers, or sound bar

Keep in mind that he may have no interest in the mentioned (you know him better than we do), but more of a guess for that price range. Also a GC isn't necessarily a bad idea. He can get what he wants, or put it toward something that may cost more. Honestly the the 'exciting' gifts are gonna be 500+... Well, for me anyway.

Maybe get him a couple of things. A tow strap for when he gets stuck, a nice D-cell Mag-lite flashlight and maybe some sort of multi-tool...like a Gerber or Leatherman.

Maybe a first-aid kit if he likes to stray very far from the road. Remember safety first. Next might be a 2 way radio to keep in touch.

First, you are in the wrong section, no fear. What you're brother has is a Jeep Wrangler JK, model years 2007-2010. Hopefully a mod can move this thread to the JK forum. No biggie, it's all good. But that'll help with suggestions

yo those Jeepegs are sweet. That's something I never thought of that I would love to have. If I'm coming from work lifeguarding) I just hang my foot out the door since I'm not wearing shoes anyway. If I'm wearing shoes I sit it on the sill or push against that hinge anyway.

See, I would actually advise against the summer top. I have one (that I would give you for a few bucks, like $70 w/ the header bar if you're nearby me in NJ or PA) and I've honestly never even put it on. I find the soft top w/ no windows is a much better idea. The ragged one I has stays down and only goes up when it rains, but it protects the backseats as well to a degree.

Seat covers if his seats are ripped up. If not, again I wouldn't want 'em either. Maybe tirecovers, but if it's not a simple Jeep logo he might not be into it (mine came with a gay Life Is Good tire cover that I immediately trashed).

I don't like giftcards either, it's a profit-scam I feel.

But what I thought was a real cool idea was some recovery equipment - recovery straps (no chains), a good hazard kit, fire extinguisher, bungee cords. I would even like things like leatherman multi-tools, a portable screw driver kit, battery jumper,

If he has a dog, check out maybe getting a cargo net like the Smittybuilt CRES which is like $90. I want that for my dog.

If he has no nerf bars, why not some tube nerf bars, or maybe a rocker panel, how bout some trail lights (though that's tricky without knowing where to mount them).

Motorcycle mirrors would be a really cool idea. Go to your local Harley dealership and check out what they have. I actually went into the shop and asked if anyone had any leftovers from bike builds, and it turned out one of the guys had a pair he sold to me for $20. Those were sick

Sunglasses. A nicer pair of sunglasses would be great. I never wore them until I bought my Jeep. Now I can't drive during the day without them. Check out Dogfunk.com: Snowboarding Clothing and Gear from Burton, Volcom, DC Shoe Co., RVCA, Nixon, Oakley, Vans, Reef, DAKINE, and Forum or wait until a set comes up on WhiskeyMilitia.com: Anon Crusher Sunglasses - $26.99 - 66% off and grab a cheap pair of reputable brand sunglasses (Spys, Oakleys, Ray Bans, Arnettes, etc.)

Throw in some silly Jeep novelty items. Towels, t-shirts (may I suggestion a WranglerForum t-shirt? ), keychains, duffel bags, Jeep boomboxes, chairs (a good beach chair or folding chair is EXCELLENT for all of the above activites)

Definitely a membership here, and a t shirt, spiderweb sunshade, all good ideas!

These are all good suggestions but remember as stated above our jeeps are a personal thing and it takes time to decide exactly what we want and don't want to do to them. My suggestion would be to purchase him somewhat of a Jeep Goody Bag. Include things like, a t-shirt, hat, key chain. Maybe the fire extinquisher and mag-light mounts, grab handles, if he smokes get him a jeep lighter, a die cast model of his jeep, a logo cd case. that sort of thing. Lots of small things make for a great gift and don't make him feel obligated to use something that he may not have wanted in the first place. I've had a bikini top, windjammer and deck cover sitting in my garage for 3 years, put it on once to see how it looked and haven't used it since.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I like the idea of all of the rescue gear, and I think he would, too. However, since I'm on a time crunch I went with the sunbonnet. I'm pretty sure he's at a stage now where he likes to "mess" with the setup of the jeep just for kicks. He takes the roof on and off like twice a day (lol) because he just really likes that he can. Anyway, thanks again, this forum seems like it's one with cool folks.

Maybe a "gift basket" of a ton of small stuff mentioned above--but instead of a basket, get him a tool box that will fit in the back of his jeep. Throw in some trail maps for future motivation....?

You forgot the Bestop Trail Top!!! I love mine! It's honestly one of the best accessories I've purchased for my Jeep to date.
