Fishing gear on Trektop NX?

I'm thinking about buying a smallish (8 or 9 foot) pontoon boat next year (something along the lines of the pic below).
Those of you with a Trektop NX, would you (or do you) put something like that on top of the top, or use a cargo rack?
I really don't like the idea of spending $500 on a rack just to hold a boat, so I was thinking maybe I could just go without it....

I think it would be possible, but where would you tie it down to? I have the Trek NX on my LJ and I am pretty surprised at how Bestop did not come up with a way to tie down the sunrider.

Most of the pontoons have D-rings at each end, I could tie to my front bumper & spare tire, and run a loop of rope from the boat's seat area to the roll bar, somewhere around the seat belts, to keep it from slipping to the side.

I'm a bit concerned about "wear & tear" on the trektop, and if there are any parts of the trektop that stick up & might be a sort of weak link in the whole idea.
