flags

I just bought a 3x5 american flag that I plan to fly the rest of the non snowy months. BUT I have no idea how to make a pole for it. Anyone have ideas or already have flags? Pics are very welcome.

I just made mine for my Jeep today... well I had one made and it didn't work right, to flimsy, so I re-vamped it.

My flag is smaller. I went to West Marine store and bought one designed for boats. The guy said it should hold up good and is also used on the local firetrucks.

Here is a pic of how I had the flag mounted on the highlift jack on my Samurai.

Fiberglass cb antennas work nicely.

Would it support the weight under wind? My flag is pretty big

Probably not if it's real big. The guys I know doing it are running flags about 2 or 2 1/2' by about 14 to 18" high.

Sorry, I missed that in the OP. The high lift looked pretty substantial!

We made one that goes in the trailer hitch and the pole is just black pipe it screws in and out I had to lengthen the pole to 8.5 feet so it would flag correctly. You don't want to go much faster then 40 with it other wise it destroys the flag.

That's a great idea. But I don't have a Trailor hitch. I need to do something with the bumper.

I went to Harley Davidson and used one of the hard top holes to mount it in. I get a lot of compliments on it and I don't have to remove it since I run a soft top.

If you are going to run a flag a lot you should check into getting a quality made one so it doesn't fray on you and a smaller one. I've had a few different ones and this one from West Marine has held up the best. This is the same flag I ran for years on my Samurai and now it has been moved to the Jeep and still looks great.
Here is the mount I made yesterday.

Google CB antenna flag ... I buy them in bulk a dozen at a time
They have a long cloth sleeve you thread down the antenna
Last about a year unless I tear one off on the trail
Burn the worn out ones in campfires on the trail with proper ceremony
