Flat fenders. Smitty or metalcloak

So I'm also looking at flat fenders


Do I go with smittybilt which is at most $450 for the front or do I go with metalcloak that's atleast $600+?

I say metalcloak. No I don't have mine yet but when I save up I will defiantly be getting them. They give you a whole new inner fender well and are completely bolt on and bolt off plus you can get the flares that are like 200 bucks extra later on for the street and then they just come off when of you want to go offroading! I just don't like the idea of cutting up the stock fenders... Just seems unstable structurally. Plus if you don't like the metalcloaks you can just take em off and go back to stock you can't go back after cutting for the smittybilt ones. I used to want the smittybilt ones until I found metalcloak

Im not a huge fan of the metalcloak style.. Idk why but i like the look of smittybilt better although i agree that the cutting part is kind of sketchy about not going back. But i did see some from a place called t&t that look similar to smittybilt and are complete bolt on for about same price as metalcloak if not cheaper

Well you can add flares to metalcloak too if you don't want it short.

If I get metalcloak I won't get the flares. I like the way it looks with just tubes

I would only get the flairs if they completely cover the tire. It's nice to be able to trail ride in the rain or after a rain and not have mud everywhere

Yeah I was in the same boat as you when I first saw them but they now have a new line called over land or overline I can't remember but they aren't as arched as the originals

Ooh sounds cool! I need to look em up. Only downside is theyll cost a pretty penny but i guess its worth it

I have the Overline Metalcloaks on order... should be here next week.
I really like that it is a complete bolt on fender, no cutting or hacking to make it work.

See even with my stock fenders mud and stuff still get all over my jeep. So that doesn't bother me.

I just think they look meaty. And they are very sturdy. But they do cost a lot

The new line overland is for the JK's.

They have 2 types of front fenders for the TJ which are the arched and the overline which have been out since they started.

No problem. Just thought it would be helpful.

But I would definitely say go with MC because you get the whole fender inners. Also another reason I like mine are because you can switch out the flares with a couple bolts and go flareless or with the 4" flare or what ever size you get.

Quick question what tires are you running and how much does the 4" flare cover your tire? Do you think a 6" flare would completely cover a 33" tire?

I just helped a friend install the Overland flares 2 weeks ago. I was very, very impressed with the quality - they're freakin' awesome. The overlands are the ones that aren't designed to be removed. The overline ones are the two piece design that you can remove, said to clear 35's or 37's (can't remember) on the stock JK suspension!

IMO buy the metalcloak, you'll like them for sure.

The only problem is that the MC is twice has expensive when you buy the flare. So 450 or 850?

At the moment I'm running KM2 35x12.50x15. The 4" flares cover enough that the cops around where I live to not bug me. But I would say more than half the tire. The 6" flares would cover you tire completely, I'm sure and it also depends on what backspacing you are using.

Oh yeah in California, especially in Alameda County, they will get you for everything. I've gotten a talking to multiple times and gotten a couple fix it tickets. I'm just happy I work for Alameda County SAR and know a couple sheriffs so I can just get them signed off and go about my day. They also like to call the flares, mud flaps when writing up the ticket....

In Texas they dot care about the tires out past the flares but I just thought it would be nice to have some tire coverage on the street. Gotta have some manners on the road hahaha plus I like offroading with no top and the fenders make that much more enjoyable

I wish it was like that here. Having some cover when off roading makes it a whole better especially when I go out in the dunes and the flares keep sand out of my jeep.

One thing to keep in mind, by not cutting your stock fenders you can turn around and sell them and get anywhere from $300 - $600 for them if they are in decent shape. A new replacement fender (just one side) costs upwards of $800.

When you do opt to sell them, we recommend eBay for greater reach across the country.

Use the classifieds on the forum here. I'm sure people would be looking for stock fenders especially if they are in the part of the country where they get rusted up easily.
