Flip Top

just in case anyone was thinking of doing this mod to their soft top i highly discourage it
http://www.stu-offroad.com/otherwrit.../sunroof-1.htm

i just did it today, it is REALLY cool and really easy to get it to flip back like in the picture, it is pretty nice for when u want to go topless but dont wanna mess with 15 minutes of the whole top down thing if you're just going somewhere that takes 10 minutes.
HOWEVER
it is the biggest PAIN in the azz to put the whole top up and down, the bow above the roll bar no longer falls by itself into place, it now takes me about 2 extra minutes to get down, and about 5 extra to put up if Im on my own, and 3 if Im with someone, that may not seem like much, but its the most frustrating five minutes ever, and the first time i tried to do it, it took me 20 minutes extra, now I kinda get what I have to do to make it flip they way it would with the frame being cut

the only way I can see this mod as working really well, is if my plan works:
my plan is to by a small length of tube to go where the cut is in the frame, then drill holes through both and use hitch pins to keep it in place, this would allow it to be semi rigid when I wanted to take the top all the way down and all the way up, and also be removable for when you just want to flip it, im guessing it will make it harder to flip, but it will be worth it

all in all as my review though, I'd say dont do it

the sunrider has a hinge in it. so it folds easy. it also pins in the surround so the back piece doesn't move. ill get pic's in a little.

here you go bud this is the sunrider top hinge deal.... i think you could do it to yours....

As far as holding yours down...The sunridertop has it's own door surrounds so you'll probally still have to wrap something around the rollbar to hold it.

here is the braket that is part of the door surround holding the bar down, there is a pin that im pointing to that is spring loaded holding the bar to the door surround...

here is it disco'ed to take top off...

ok thanks, so basicly to make that hinge all i have to do is get a small plate of metal, drill two holes and put two bolts though and leave them semi loose, or put some kinda bushing inbetween with a little bit o' grease
and i may try the pin thing, but i already have a strap so we'll see if that holds up

thanks man, now all i gotta figure out is how to get that plate hinge to fit in my surround, our comes the hacksaw again haha

it takes me less than a minute to put my sunridar down,, OEM. in good sunny days like today I dont even tuck the flap under the door surrounds.. I just uncuckle both sides from the windshield and toss it back.. I dont use straps or velcrow eithar to keep it folded.. and was tested many times at freeway speeds... I like it because I dont feel like taking the whole top down on a short drive to the store.. for 10 min. of driving..

x2 - but remember - if your going to be driving at highway speeds, it's a good idea (recommended) to remove the rear window. An xtra minute.
