Foam rubber blowing out the dash vents

The subject line pretty much sums it up. Every time I turn the heat or A/C on through the dash vents there are small pieces of foam rubber that blow out of the vents. I don't have an owners manual (2000 TJ) is there a filter of some sort that I need to replace? Thanks

I've had that happen on other cars before. I'm not sure where it comes from but it's some kind of foam sealer that rots away after 10 years or so.

Make sure its not a critter trying to make a nest. Might be worth setting a mouse trap on your floorboard overnight just to be sure.

The foam seals for the ducting are breaking down. If you (or the PO) smoke in the vehicle, nicotine will cause the seals to deteriorate even faster!

Mine did the same for a while. If you rolled it around in your fingers it would turn almost powdery so I chalked it up to age and it starting to break down. It seems to have fixed itself though.
