This was my woman's idea, because she felt the need for a place to put her foot on the outside...
Many of you go without doors, and you prop your foot outside to cool off your whatevers. Well, a very simple thing you can do to make your feet more comfy when not using doors.
Similar to how some use motorcycle mirrors, you can use motorcycle footpegs as well. Fits perfectly. Can be found pretty much anywhere. Just pick the type/style you want. Use any nut, bolt, lockwasher hardware that fits, and BAM, instant footpegs for when you aren't using doors. I used Lock-Tite, lockwashers, locking nuts so that I could loosen them just enough to be able to pivot the pegs in or out (without worrying about them loosening all the way out and possibly falling off)...
I understand doing this if you have an auto as you pretty much never use you left foot, or for your co pilot for that matter. But I see 3 petals, I don't know about where you live but around here I would get about 30 seconds to a minute before I would have to down shift due to stop lights unless I'm on the highway. Kind of seems pointless with a standard but that's just my opinion.
Is your passenger working the controls? (no) Do you never drive on the highway? I have already used these plenty- In many types of roads and conditions. People put their foot out there all the time. (I see it) Regardless of 5-spd or Auto. It's a Jeep-thing (because we can). No other 'reason' is required.
Maybe I will only put one on the passenger side (no).

I like the idea a lot, but I also agree that with mine having a manual and with the driving I normally do, I would get very little use out of it because of constant shifting.
I'm in the same camp as oneloud and BlueBerry ... driving a manual, which I do, I've found that I've used my peg maybe 5 times - tops - and they were for very short times. My daughter uses hers quite a bit (passenger side) but, again, she's not shifting. If it weren't for how much she - and my wife to an extent - uses them, I probably wouldn't put them on ... and I'm too anal about symmetry to only have the passenger one on while the driver's is off ... that's just wrong looking ...
I haven't fabbed up any pegs yet but my foot is always on the tub on the highway even with a manual. Maybe I do more highway driving. Even sitting still talking with friends, it's a good spot to rest your foot. Pegs in the future.
Does anybody know the legality of these? I was looking at doing something like that but thought I read somewhere that you can't put your feet outside the vehicle. It seems kind of rediculous to me. It's no different than a motorcycle.
I got the combo foot pegs / mirrors from KikBax. Another member mentioned them. I like that they just slide in (no bolts to tighten.)
When I was looking to get my jeep, i wanted a standard. A friend pointed out that I would have to keep bringing my leg in to shift. This is why I got an automatic. As far as being legal. I had a cop pull onside of me at a red light, he looked over and I just smiled and waved, he did the same, light changed and I went on my way.
Complete thread hijack ... have not known anyone else to have my same nickname ... what's your story? Mine came from the character "Grog" in the BC comic strip, Dad and a "few" beers when I was a baby and me being colicky.
Yes!
Wife and I have the feet out quite a bit in the summer. She's gotten over thinking it was just a redneck thing to do...lol. I like the idea, however, my doors go on and off so much it wouldn't be worth it to us. We just use the our Drop Kick Slyders.

What keeps them from twisting in the bracket and just getting pushed into the side of the Jeep, as the weight of your foot/leg pushes against them? Do you use a stopper of some type or just ratchet 'em down very tight?
The motorcycle footpegs I got already have a "stopper", so, they do not pivot all the way around. But I do use a locking nut so that they are not tightened all the way, and will not loosen off.
Works great. And only cost me $10 as opposed to those $40 "Jeep-specific" ones. It seems that just because an item becomes "Jeep-specific"- the price quadruples. Hilarious. And I try to look for other methods of doing the same task (for 4x cheaper).
We use ours all the time - (even with a 5spd).
