For those that have been following my Jeep buying saga..

Please see the other posts below started by me if interested.

So I went and test drove the blue 01' jeep. This was the one for 9k with 80k miles from an individual. The hard top was unrepairable from the inside and the Jeep didn't ride very well. You could tell that his teenage son did not take care of it and it had substantial rust.

Still unsure I took yall's advice and test drove the infamous silver sport (with a spedometer from Canada, where purchased) at the dealer. It had little to no rust and rode like a top. The hard top was in perfect condition and the road noise was almost non existant. ALSO..........(drum roll)...... it had a soft top that came with it! (save $600). This Jeep also has cruise control and 75k miles which the other did not, and the engine looked brand new (new battery). They came off 1K off the price and it put it right at 10k or so.

I also told them that my car was appraised at Carmax for 13k which was really not true, it was 12k. They took the bait and I picked up another 1k. I pick up the beauty tomorrow and they pay me 2k for the difference.

What do you guys think? I didn't sign since I told them that I had to get with my fiance. Guess what. I'm single. Just wanted to sleep on it and get my new forum friends opinions.

Thanks for all of your advice, especially the person that told me to go test drive the silver one despite the Canadian speed dials (which I told the dealer costs $525 to change out, and you guys told me $20 bucks

I <3 the initiative and the cheap tactics, good stuff! Stick with the plan, I think you're definitely getting a GREAT deal and I'm glad you realized how terribly taken care of the other one was. You'll be happy with your purchase no doubt and welcome to the Jeep community. Remember to wave!

For The Gauges

You have some options, you can buy an aftermarket gauge overlay like this

Jeep 97-06 Wrangler Glow Gauges 98 99 00 01 02 03 04 05: eBay Motors (item 280508202965 end time Jun-15-10 21:59:06 PDT)

or your can go buy a OEM one from Ebay.com or car-part.com

Then, the removal is simple.

1. Remove the two phillips screws underneath the steering wheel on the kick panel
2. Remove the two screws holding the metal kick panel behind that.
3. Take a flathead screwdriver and pop off the dash bezel that runs the length along the top of the dash and has the cutoff for the vin #.
4. Remove the three phillips screws holding the cluster in at the top.
5. Remove the two screws on either side of the steering wheel holding the cluster in
6. Pull the gauge cluster straight out and then seperate the clear bezel from the gauges, I think they're snapped in.

Here's some good instructions after that if you got the el glow gauges

http://www.astromarble.com/msi/Installations.html

The guide does say to NOT REMOVE THE NEEDLES. Now, I have done this swap on another cluster out of a Mercury Cougar and I pulled out the needles to do a needle-swap and all you have to do is recalibrate them by driving doing like 10 mph w/ a GPS unit and putting the needle back on @ 10mph mark. Take a pic before hand so you can put the other ones on the right way.

And if you wouldn't mind, I'd love those Canadian gauges to swap into mine! Least I have an excuse if I get pulled over for speeding.... oh nevernmind

Only problem is a dealer can make a POS shine like a brand new car than once you drive it off the lot you find its flaws. i bought mine privatley. im having a TPS problem but its a minor thing.

Great news! I for one have enjoyed your saga.... I love buying vehicles, we have kind of made a hobby of it. Although the finances don't like it much! Glad you found one that is right for you! You'll love it!

did you get to check the 4wd at all?
I just find a patch of grass and make sure to go through all the drive settings.

I did it on pavement. I didn't turn any more than was necessary though. I've had it in all ranges in grass since then as well though.
