Found a perfect jeep

I finally found a perfect jeep. Looks great in the pictures. Low mileage for a 2002 sahara with a hardtop.I have been looking for a white jeep for good while now so I got pretty excited when I saw the price and how it looked\. I keep finding them with huge lifts, but I am perfectly fine with a stock jeep with 31/10.50 mud terrains on it and this one is stock.... The only problem is I just found out from the dealer it was painted white. The carfax still shows it noted as black in april 2012. I am afraid it will look great, but I know next to nothing about paint. I would expect it too look good even if it was a crap paint job for the first couple of months right? I have heard horror stories from midas and how they look great for 6 months and then start looking like shit. I would hate it buy it and it look great and then the paint start to come off. Can anyone help? Should I drive the 3 hours to look at the jeep or just keep looking for another one?

Painting can vary wildly from shop to shop. You can take a small magnet and stop while on the test drive walk around the Jeep and try to stick it. If you find some places that don't hold it well you have BONDO. Be careful

OOps didn't see the 3hr part Pass on it

Yeah I am just worried about who did it. I didn't ask the dealership, but unless they have receipts of everything then there really isn't a good way to know is there?

Odd that it has been repainted, it would concern me enough to keep looking elsewhere....Unless it’s a beater (rattle can or some cheap job) or highly customized expensive rig done right they rarely get repainted.

The dealership said the previous owner ( who had it 7 years btw) had a solid white RV and wanted the jeep to match it. Maybe be true. I love how it looks in the pictures, but just can't really be sure if I am being told a story or not.

You should be able to get the previous owners name. Then when you do, find there number and call them.

Yep see if you can get a name and # It may be a quality job. There will be many others that see the "new paint" and walk away for that reason alone. That could be a good barganing chip if you are willing to make the "3hr tour"

I'd pass on it. Did they strip the interior and paint the inside of the tub? Engine compartment?

When I was searching for cars I would simply Google the VIN. Very often you can find some history on things, it's free and easy.
You might not get any results but give it a shot. I know all about the fact if may not have been reported and what not, just saying you do get lucky sometimes. Try it.

Most states, including Wisconsin that I live at, will only give name. No address or number is legal.

If they had an RV, AND, wanted the Jeep to match the RV...they probably did it right.
You could take it to a reputable paint shop and see what they think...

Just wanted to share that I did not get this jeep. I did not make the 6hour trip there and back and it also set on their lot a lot longer than it should so something was probably wrong with it!
