Frame problem 2000 TJ

What's up Wrangler Forum? Long time no see. I miss you guys. I still don't have a jeep yet, but my friends mom has a serious problem that I am looking for insight.

Her driver side frame rail is rusted. The three bolts for the skid plate have pulled through. She doesn't know anything about jeeps hence why I am helping her out. I am trying to save her money because unfortunately they are hurting.

The only two options I see is cutting out the rusted parts cleaning the crap out of the inside of the frame rail and rust proofing. Then welding new metal into the frame. I wouldn't be doing this because I suck at welding and not gonna trust my self when it comes to something like a frame.

Option two. Replace the frame. I haven't done enough research in to this yet. Is it possible to replace one rail or would the whole frame need to be done.

Thanks as always.

No more jeep for now

You could get box tube and replace sections... but before I considered something like that check and see how deep into the metal the rust is. If it's only rusted out the nutsert but the rest is sound there is no point in doing that. Just weld in nuts into the frame to replace the bad areas, maybe with a little metal around them. Really can't recommend anything without seeing it so you'll have to use your own judgement - or someone who is familiar with metal work.

Yea I should have taken pictures. The nutserts pulled through the frame. I did see that they sell replacement center sections. So that gives me a little hope for her.
